good deal? 120gb harddrive for $90 canadian. i've got a 40 and 60 already (both maxtor) and i can fit one more in my large tower.

how big of a cache does it have? it 's probably 2mb but if its 8 then its a real good deal

It has an 8MB cache! I have the 200GB model and its a great upgrade with the extra cache and all.....makes quite a good speed difference. Use executive diskeeper with it, and set it to screensaver mode and it runs like a dream,
Coupling price and its stats, it seems like one of the best deals around for a storage device. 
Oh my, things are getting smaller, faster, and more powerful...

thats a good deal, they were selling crappy 120gb noisy, 2mb buffer pieces of sh!te maxtors a couple of months ago for the same price.
I've had a 60 gb WD caviar (same buffer, and pretty much same seek time) for about a year now, and its about waaaaay better than the crapped out, junk, crap, worth diddly squat maxtors. (Y) They're quiet too.
I hate maxtor.
Just check up on everything when you get to the store... its future shop after all, and they always screw up somehow. :6
I like Maxtor a lot. More than WD.
I've had mostly WD in my computers over the years and they are a good combination of speed&reliability-Maxtor excels in the first, whereas Seagate is the choice if u want mostly silent&reliable operation and are willing to sacrifice the speed. An 8MB-buffer WD rests in my PC now and has been doing its job very well for the past 18 months. So, especially at that price, go for it.

and here comes the dilemma... do i get this or upgrade my geforce 2 card? i've got $150 at futureshop to spend (canadian funds). i could something 128mb instead of the 32mb i got now.

don't you already have 100gb of storage (2 drives).
Unless your finding something annoying about your current drives, i'd just wait until futureshop has a sale on a decent video card and get that. You'll probably appreciate that more than another drive.
depends where you are, but you might have to wait a bit, as they are sold out on alot of video cards here.
i like music and movies. both of which take up so much space.
only do some gaming (a bit of warcraft, vice city, wolfenstein). the rest is surfing, some video editing, photoshop and minor webdesign.
well folks, i was in futureshop, ready to get the 120gb HD, but the geforce 5200 kept looking at me and whistling.
all in all, the salesman convinced me to get the geforce (likely gets more commission i bet) and i can give my old geforce 2 to my bro (it is his bday today afterall 
)
good move? thoughts and opinions quiet welcomed. there are 3 of the caviar drives left at the store should i change my mind. i'm even tempted to get one still even though the money would be from my own pocket.
hmm, as far as i know, the 5200 isn't that great of a card. its performance is similar to that of the mx400 series, and actually, nvidia cards haven't been as good as ati's recently, but unless you're doing intense gaming, it shouldn't make much difference.
@dreamz: would you recommend this 9200 instead? only a bit more money, so is it worth another $25?

Honestly, I really like ATi; ever since the Radeon series has come out they've been kicking some serious ass. Something to consider though, Power Supply. The newer ATi cards require you to connect one of the 4-pin connectors (the kind you plug into your hard drives and cd-roms) directly into the card! I say go for the ATi card. I get pretty good performance even out of my crappy All-in-Wonder 7500.
hmm, i think the 9200 might be better than the 5200, but you should find some reviews and benchmarks online before buying. they're rival cards, but one might fare better than the other in certain games or situations. one thing to consider, though, is the fact that the 9200 does not have full dx9 support.
but i think the best bang for the the buck card would be the 9600. my next card will probably be a 9500 or 9600. maybe other people will have some suggestions as well.
i would definitely try and save up a little more and get a better card than to settle for a mediocre one.
there are lots of subtleties as well. older cards like the 9000 pro sometimes perform better despite the lower number. you need to look at the architecture, ram types, etc. e.g. the radeon 9500, while being lower than the 9600, is physically equivalent to the 9700. you can flash the 9500 and turn it into a 9700.
with all that said, i'd look into reviews and benchmarks.
actually, i went and searched around, and it looks like the 5200 beat the 9200 in many areas. then again, this doesn't consider the possibility that the 9200 is also a bad card. the 5200 was far behind older cards like the ti4200 (a very, very good card for the price) and even the 9000 pro. maybe shop around a bit more and see what's out there. don't limit yourself to the 5200 or the 9200. they're just labels, and if you can analyze different cards' performances, you might find a gem.

i was told to never go near a western digital with a 8 foot stick beacuse they burn out really fast
i have a western digital 80gb drive and it's been great to me. actually, i think a lot of people prefer wd over maxtor, but i think each brand has a certain defective rate, and some unlucky individuals just extrapolate their own bad experiences and avoid the brand altogether.

I actually have this exact hard drive! Its quiet compared to my maxtor but i hear seagate hd are quieter. Ive had no problems with it and it runs about a bagillion times faster than my other hard drive. I got mine for $90 US. Im very happy with it. Except mine is Ultra ATA, dunno what the difference there is, but my mobo supported it.
Newer ati cards whoop nvidia right now, but ati cards cost quite a bit, but all graphics cards do. I like my radeion 9600, i havent found a game it cant play smoothly.
