My Camera Doesn't Seem To Work In "me"

A nifty feature i never came to realize until around now, since i never used it, is plug and play. Whenever i plug a joystick, keyboard, mouse, even my digital camera, xp detects it automatically. Unfortuanatly, my laptop with xp is totally screwed, and i don't want to upload my pics onto my bro's xp computer. So i plug the camera into me and behold, there is no plug and play. I try to tinker around with the control panel. Clicking everything. Trying to change the settings, but alas, no such luck. When i first bought the camera it didn't come with any program. Once i clicked something, in control panel. A panel popped up, asking me install software for the camera. It even had the cameras name. I jumped for joy. Clicked okay, but the computer couldn't find any program to install.

So my plee is this. Is there any program you guys know of, that can extract pictures out of a usb connected, digital camera? To be exact the camera is a "Sony 4.0 Mega Pixels Cyber-Shot" model name, and the model code is "DSC-P9."

Sometimes digital cameras have settings for PC connectivity.

I have a HP Photosmart 610, and it has two choices:

1. Digital Camera

2. Disk Drive

I don't know if your camera has this feature, but it's worth investigating.

does your brother have XP SP1 installed? that was the cause of plug-and-play not working at a friend of mine.

It's not a question of wether plug and play is working or not.

Since you Me machine was able to detect it, PnP IS working.

Unlike XP though, Me does not contain device specific or universal drivers.

It was the same way with Windows 98 and to some extent in Windows 2000.

XP SP1 does not break PnP.

I have it loaded on over 400 PC's here at work and all my PC's at home and PnP works just fine.

As for PnP not working on your friends PC after applying SP1.

Chalk that one up to either user error or an improperly configured PC to begin with.

Some people also disable it by accident when they use info from sites like Black Viper's that give, not exactly bad advise, but inaccurate advice on what to disable.

His site has some very good info, but some of the settings he suggests are questionable at best.
