Aqua-Soft ForumsI've been playing with my iBook for several days now and would like to share some initial observations.
Things I like about my Mac:
1. The OS X desktop is nothing short of visually stunning. I guess it's Quartz Extreme but whatever it is, it looks beautiful. Icons and whatever else end up on your desktop are so crisp and clear it almost makes me want to cry! Trust me.....unless you've seen it in person, you won't appreciate what I'm talking about.
2. Those who already have Macs really like to help nOObs who know nothing about them. The Mac community really is wonderful.
3. I love the default brushed alluminum visual style. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but (to me) it has a clean, non-intrusive appearance.
4. Safari is a great browser. I like the way it's organized and the buttons look cool. I'm sure I could customize a version of Firebird and achieve similar results but it's nice liking my default browser.
5. iTunes is a great program. I actually bought a song! The process is a breeze and I must admit that I felt better about purchasing as opposed to "sharing."
6. I just love hopping over to aqua-soft.org and responding, "A Mac? Yeah, I got one of those."
7. Mac help menus really help. Every time I have gone to a help menu the returned results answered my question.
8. I can finally use Konfabulator!!! Man do I love this program. The widgets provide great eye candy and are actually quite functional. Even more importantly, one need not understand scripts to work with widgets. OK.....I admit it. I still have not been able to figure out how to work Samurize!
Things I don't like about my Mac:
1. I miss the right-click option. As a matter of fact, my mouse doesn't even have a right click button. I'm pretty sure that command-click does essentially the same thing in a Mac environment but it's just so much easier right-clicking.
2. I'm not so sure I'm completely down with the bar at the top. I think it's called the Menu Bar but I'm really not sure. I prefer to have my commands within the window itself.
3. I should preface myself by saying that I like the Mac dock. It's smooth and responsive and looks great. That being said, it doesn't do some things I'd like it to. For instance, when I have an open program that's not in the foreground, I'd like to be able to minimize it to the dock by clicking on the dock icon. Does that make sense?
4. I'd like the "x" within application windows to actually close the application when engaged. Instead, when you click "x", it closes the window but leaves the application active. Once again, does this make sense?
Anyway, these are my initial observations. Overall, I have been having a blast with my Mac. Honestly, I don't think I'll ever fully "switch" because I really enjoy my PC.....especially when it comes to gaming. I will make additional observations in a couple of days.
