A-s 2003: Major Events

I'm just trying to compile a few of the major events that happened in the last year, maybe to add onto the 'official' account of A-S's history. The major things I can think of:

-The near loss of A-S in early Dec. 2003

-The cease and desist letter delivered to Jef

-The questionable cease and desist email sent to Mr. Y

-The release of MobyDock DX

-The addition of myself, Contrasutra, and Stevie BM as mods

-The reappearance (and subsequent disappearance) of site founder DeadZombie

-The near-site implosion in June in which the forum nearly tore itself apart with debate over what was and wasn't acceptable discussion. This untimately resulted in the banning of the notorius Videomann and Jmitch, as well as the creation of the short-lived "No Holds Bar" forum

-The mass staff exodus of Novemeber, in which Goku, Sid, Contrasutra, and myself all banned ourselves. All later returned, although Goku has since demoted himself to a normal member

-The releases of various developers, especially those of Alilm and Mr. Aqua, who has since left the community

Feel free to suggest more.

- The release of ObjectDock with Docklet support!

- iTunes for Windows. Need to say anything else?

- The release of iBar! It matches my iTunes perfectly and it's very cool.

Let's make a list of the most important apps and mods.

-Jib's Address Book

-Font Book

-Batchmod

-Flyakite's system file set

-disappointment: KKmenu isn't free anymore

I'm waiting for the new chapter, godpunk

Mac OS 10.3 Panther (Who could forget that?)

#92766

10,000 members, i'd say thats pretty good.

#92785

What about a certain revolutionary skin release by a certain mod? ;)

Why did so many staff: Goku, Sid, Contra, Godpunk, (Taha, too?) leave in November? Did leaving have anything to do with the surge in new members?

Everyone gets bored with the site, they leave but they come back a week later its quite funny.

@dreamz- see the first entry on my list ;)

@AquaKid- The panther release only affected those of us with Macs...unless you meant that some of the emulations apps (i.e., Alilm's Finder, etc.) had to be redone because of Panther. That'd make sense...

@Timan- I think Stevie was referring to a skin he made for WMP9. But I'll take the kudos for the board theme...it's quite underappreciated around here...;)

@ji eun- I left because I needed a break until the craziness died down around the forums. Plus I had 2 10 page papers due that week!

@wysiwyg- I cant believe I forgot about the iTunes release. It's crazy, but a few around here still prefer QCD with the iTunes skin.

Keep em coming guys!

man, i must be blind!

-the creation of tcpu, aqua-soft's sister site

-action taken against the use of the word "****ie" or its variants

-numerous improvements made to the forums. i don't know what improvements were made to the system, but i know a-s has been down several times during those moments.

-the highly praised introduction of the "respect" feature and its mysterious subsequent disappearance.

-samurize and objectdock reach 1.0!

-firebird reached 0.7!

Mostly bland grayness, with a few disjointed and mismatching Aqua elements thrown in. Both themes (Panther and Smoothstripes) look much better than it did before.

I wanted to write something like "For the love of God, how could you forget iTunes for Windows?!?! You didn't knew that HELL FROZE OVER????" but i found it too dramatic.

But i have to say SORRY STEVE!!!! Your WMP9 skin is amazing! I was using that 'til the release of iTunes, it's a shame i forgot it... :shy:

Yes, I was the year of Aqua.

- It's still new to say, but the wave of Aquafying Linux. Beautiful themes have come out and a wonderful dock. Linux has a long way to go, but as much that it is growing, it won't take long to catch up to windows on the skinning front.

- The Purple Prince made his mark.

#92979

Everyone is forgetting Dan's iChat skin for Trillian

Oh, nobody remebered my efforts to make KDE look like aqua! :( I've compiled some links to themes and icons over the net, and even some colors to make the scrollbars look more like the real thing. It's a shame that that post was lost, i didn't save it in my computer...

#93146

Y'z Dock, started the dock race (like space race), and I'm still loyally using it on my PC (which I rarely use):rolleyes:

#93166

No man. You and other early people helped us to realize that you CAN make linux look good.

Hell, there's two new sites about it now.

#93174

@ Goku - That's what you get for demoting yourself, no authoritar! Did you know if you were to ban nrzero, his post count would be frozen at 666?
