Alright! I have one, very simple, suggestion to make:
Do not post wallpapers that you, yourself, would not use on your desktop!
I am getting tired of, what I percieve to be, releases for the sake of releasing. If I'm being too uptight, and edgy about this, stop me. But I am serious.

Could you explain it, give some details, examples? Because I find a problem here. Example. I create a wallpaper that I wouldn't use on my desktop, but there's something in it that tells me that somebody on A-S will like it and use it. A situation: esXXI (who likes abstract and blurred walls) creates a wall with a G5 case covered with blood. esXXI would never use it, but Shiggy most likely will say 'well pull my ears and call me Dumbo', save it to his hd and set as his desktop wall.
Or Juno. Recently he released two dark, scary wallpapers. It's definitely not 'aqua' style, but they were good for some of us (for example me).
I think that it's not good to censor what is released here. Or maybe we should get something like Wincustomize has? You release something and it shows up after 5 days. Or it doesn't. Stupid IMO.
What's wrong with millions of wallpaper releases? It's not easy to create things as good as default OSX wallpapers. People here are trying and improving their abilities thanks to comments given by other members. Let them (us) have their 5 minutes of fame and admiration 
And there is no problem with chaos on these boards. Staff keeps this place disciplined, everything's arranged and kept clean. There's no reason to fear that wallpaper topics will flood and kill A-S.
I agree with Pe7er on this... I may not use most of the things released here but I'm willing to bet that someone would. Whatever floats their boats.
yes, regardless of if YOU would use it, you still should release it, because out of the 10,000 members here, I am sure that at least 1 is bound to like it! i remember i showed a wall to someone, and they said "put it on da! people will like it!" but i never was planning on putting it up there because I was a little critical on myself, and didn't like how it turned out! but at least if you release it you get feedback...YOU DON'T HAVE TOO LOOK AT ALL OF THEM! if you don't like somone's style, tough, someone does. everyone has their own opinions, and i respect that globox!

A good point.
That doesn't fix the problem though. I'm sick and tired of wading through all the terrible wallpapers that are being released by people who are just trying to get some praise. That's a wrong motive. Release wallpapers that have visual merit.
Art may be relative, but skill is not.
But I can see what you mean, Peter, and it makes a lot of sense. But before you start making a wallpaper you aren't going to use, think twice, please.

3 times no! I disagree. First, I'm asking, what are you defining by 'skill' in this certain case? Is it the knowledge of Photoshop commands and filters and conscious ability to use them in purpose of bringing to life one's imaginations? I think it's close to the definition of 'skill' in this case.
Well. My example: I must say that lots of my favourite works came from surrealistic playing with PS filters. I was starting with some photos and filter, filter, filter....until something really good was coming out of this chaos. Lots of my friends that play with Photoshop say that it's a good way to create.
In history of Western art there were many artists that didn't possess skills, but they had intuition and creativity. Or they didn't use they skills intentionally. Look at all abstract painters (Wassily Kandinsky, Jackson Pollock) or some expressionists (Chaim Soutine!!!). The last one, Soutine, was painting like a 10 year child but his works are VERY expensive and popular nowadays.
Conclusions:
1. "Improvisation is composition through performance" (Robert Fripp) - art doesn't base on skill in every case. And it isn't bound to. Today the main weapon of the artist is his creativity, his ideas. His creation is based on allusion, thanks to it the receiver is able to create art as well, to find himself in it. A philosoper said: 'art es celare artem'. Art is to hide the art. And we can go in circles here
2. Quality of 'art' isn't created by the creator or critics. It is the society that adores work and it becomes art or rejects it and people forget about it. Qualities aren't created individually, a person cannot simply stand up, yell 'Mona Lisa is sh!tty' and make everybody believe it. Nevertheless individual point of view is valuable since qualities are created by multiplied individual points of view, it's not statistics.

Don't express your disapproval here. Criticize creatively and look at the others' reactions in the respective threads. Just my little advice that surely would be helpful in strenghtening our community
I agree w/ Pe7er. Who are you to say what is or what isn't good art. Everyone has different levels of skill and the comments given here are given to help the artist improve. Without this feedback the artist will never progress.
That's why we can show previews of the wallpapers in each post. Then you (the user/member) can decided wheter the download/time is worth it, for you.
I'm sorry but I think we are fine the way we are.
There are plenty of other communities out there that are in total chaos. We however are totally under control and ejoying the freedom of posting wallpapers as we wish.

I think it would be rather hurtful for one person to sit down and say "You shouldn't release that wallpaper because it's crap". If someone wants to give something to the community, then they should be allowed to. It's then upto the said community to comment on the work.
Otherwise just make all new threads to be put in a moderation que and the ones deemed as good enough would be allowed. You can only have it one of those ways, I believe.
