i have $0 so i don't ahve a mac but when i get one i will teachj you about osx. i do know a lot about unix, though.
Go switch, i had been a PC user for the past 19 years, and 2 weeks ago i switched, and i am not looking back. Switching i have to say is all down to this site. Thank You AquaSoft. getting used to Os X is easy and sooo enjoyable.

Here's a tip: if you have nothing to add to the conversation, just don't post. Otherwise it's "spamming".
If someone posts, "Can you help me?", you don't have to post "no". It's just kind of assumed.

personally i think powerbook is much much MUCH better than ibook. much thinner, much slickier (and much more expensive?!?), lol. but yeah, i would go for a powerbook if i had the money.
I myself have taught about the "switch" aswell. Kinda shaky about it I must say. I've been a PC user for about 20 years now.
If you do "switch" let me know how things come out.

Mac's are simple to use....almost...too simple <_<
You dont need to learn anything really if you come from a pc.
But if your gonna get one you'll find that most people who do get them are using them for a specific reason, be Graphic Design, Making Music, Not gaming though if your getting an ibook
Hey Im thinking of switching too
either an iBook or a G5
I do some serious gaming sometimes so It'll prob be a G5 with 128 graphics (Y)
My main thing is making music with ProTools so a Mac would be helpful, IM abit shaky about the move too. Ive used panther and I find it one Kickass OS but Im more worried about the amount of software. Theres loads of software and games for Windows but alot less for Mac, Is there anyone who switched had trouble because of this its mainly the only thing stopping me.

I've been doing the PC scene for too long, now when I'm at work (use XP-nis) I'm constantly thinking I wish I was on my Mac, (cept I use "run" a lot, wish Mac's had that).
When you go to a Mac, like a lot of people already said, its really really, simple, fun, and it works with no problems!! They're built like Tanks and gives reliability a new definition. Just remember to browse "Help" a lot, and you'll be well on your way.

. I myself am also thinking of switching. As soon as I have enough money saved up, I think i'm gonna get a G5.
Pro Tools is VERY! buggy with panther, so dont bother getting a mac yet until they actually release a good patch, they released one couple of weeks ago, but still pro tools will suddenly stop running, then if you put the patch on again its ok for a while. <_
I'm looking at buying an iBook G4 as well. If I do it, I'm going to get the 800 mhz model with 640 MB of Ram and a 60 GB HD. I'm curious, will some less demanding games run well on this machine? For instance; The Sims, or Sim City 4? Gaming isn't a huge concern since I have a very nice PC for that, but it would be nice to play some old favorites on the road.

Wasn't the G4 iBook just released in the last few months?
Well here I am typing on my new g4 12" ibook. I have finally made the switch, and let me tell you all, it was the best decision i have ever made.
this thing is awesome. I just got the standard job with base ram and all the stuff. Just today I bought a wireless usb adapter to tap into my wireless router, and what a difference it makes to be completely mobile. WHOOOO HOOO.
Quick review. I was hesitant with getting this because of all the crap reviews i've read here and there. None of them have held true for me. Sure this book is a little slower than my p4 desktop, but I imagine once I bump up the ram, everything will be fine. It isnt that slow at all, it moves along quite nicely I must say.
As far as the switching part of it, its not that difficult of an OS to get used to. there are a few things here and there, that i am not quite used to, but in time i dont see it being a problem.
all in all, the best decision i ever made.

Too late, just ordered a fully loaded (640 RAM, 60 GB HD) 12" iBook . Can't wait for it to come.
Quick question: I'm a university student, so I took advantage of the educational discounts. Sadly, my email client server seems to be down, and I can't see the order confirmation email. Does anyone know if I will be asked to email "proof" of my enrollment?

All in all, I'm glad I switched over. I still use my PC for lots of stuff, but its no longer on the "default" desk. PC's and Macs both have the advantages and disadvantages, right now I'm having fun on a new system.
