Pda Dilemma

Ok...So I am finally down to the decision of two PDA's I'm looking at the HP iPaq 4355 or the Tungsten T3 I realize that the T3 dose not have built in Wifi but I really kind of like the Palm OS interface. The HP 4355 has all the bells and whittles built into one small package, however I not sure if the interface is as pretty many people might say just go for the most functionality but I thought I would ask you guys because we all know the quality of the interface is very important too. So tell me what you think of the Pocket PC 2003 interface and if it is just as good, because from what I've seen of the Palm OS the icons are more vivid and the application gui's are more function and well, pretty.

I'd say go for the iPAQ. And you can always beautify the interface. The only thing that really can't be changed that really should be is the location of the menu. I hate it on the bottom.

Also, at some point I want to do a complete breakdown of every possible modification that can be done to a Pocket PC, as sort of an Ultimate PPC Skinning Guide, but I've got a lot of other stuff going on too, so that will take a while to get done.

well I did it I Purchased a brand new ipaq 4155 and am writing this post via my new 802. 11b network on my PDA! you May not be happy for me but too bad I could not resist posting,anyway does anyone have any recomendations of Some good software for Pocket pc 2003 or webSites to get Software for PP2003

As a member who has had both an iPaq and a various Palms, both Palm OS 4 and 5 based, I would strongly caution you to stay well away from the iPaq. I thought the iPaq was really cool looking but beware of MS Windows for Pocket PC...it sucks. I'm not sure if anyone else is used to having their PDA crash, but my iPaq sure did, and despite it's 300MHz processor, my monocrome Palm's 33MHz processor EASILY outbeat the iPaq. My main problem with my Pocket PC, asside from crashes and freezing, was the slowness of it. When I loaded Avantgo on my PocketPC through IE PocketPC Edition, it would take literally up to 5 minutes to load! Loading Avantgo on my Palm takes a couple of seconds, so why should a PocketPC take longer if it's processor is 6x faster?

Although the actual iPaq is prettier than most Palms (asside from the Sony Clie line), the mediocre, problematic Microsoft OS is reason enough to stay away from the PocketPC family of products. I returned mine after 2 months.

A note to all the Canadians out there: Anyone living on the western half of the country where London Drugs or A&B Sound locations are present, you can currently buy the Palm Zire (monocrome) PDA for $69 CND during Boxing Day sales!! True it's an entry level Palm, but it's sure cheaper than my Sony Clie SJ25 ($300+), and way cheaper than any new Palm I've ever come accross.

I have the Tungsten T3, Tungsten C, and Sony Clie Peg-UX-50. The clie is by far the best with bluetooth and wireless capabilities, the T3 is a not-very-close second, and lacks the entertainment features of the clie, like camera, photo-editing etc. The worst is the Tungsten C, even though it has wireless, it has no capabilities for audio or music, and accepts only mono headphones. I always liked Palms, and I would say that the Clie is a little on the expensive side, go for the bluetooth Tungsten T3, it works really well with my nokia 3650 phone. Forget about the Toshiba, I bought that, and returned it after a month of fatal errors, and Compusa charged me $60 because I didn't want a replacement (cheap bas****s).

Smart move.. I have an ipaq 4155 also. The 802.11b is great. the Bluetooth is great. I can do more with this PDA than i can with my old computer i owned 6 years ago. Now all i need is an Panther-esque OS on my device and i'll be big pimpin.

If you dont really need wi-fi, go for the Tungsten, palm is IMHO the "Mac" of Pda's

In my opinion, the development of the PocketPC is still in its infant stages... and there's still considerable improvements to be expected, which explains the zero coherency as they progressed from the first generation.

First generation Pocket PC devices from HP and Casio became instantly obsolete when Microsoft announced Strong ARM-only support for future products.

And since you're going to be using it frequently while on the move, I presume you don't want it to fail on you when you're out there isn't it? Battery life.

For the Palm OS, Independent tests indicate that Palm Powered handhelds last up to 2 weeks in a typical usage scenario.

In independent tests, the Compaq iPaq runs out of power in a typical usage scenario in under three days, putting the user at risk of losing access to data on a short business trip.

i say palm system is better

i dont noe if it happens to u guys but comparing palm OS 5.2 and Pocket PC 2003, the PPC 2003 hangs a lot more and goes slower too

so i say Tungsten T3

if u can get a sony, i would, the new one...mmm..UX50..i got it and it works perfectly, have been using for 2 months and haven't hang a single time :woot:

I am currently using the Sony UX50 with my Powerbook Laptop, that compatability of mac os with the palm os is great, better that palm with PC, buy a palm ALWAYS!!!!
