How Window Xp Fit Screen To Apple 20 Inch Display?

How Windows XP fit 1600 x 1024 resolution to 20” Apple Display whose resolution is 1680x1050? I want only native/optimum resolution, not any stretched picture, because stretched picture look horrible in LDC Display.

I know that other Apple monitor is same resolution as in windows world, so they dont be any problem with Windows/PC Resolutions.

Other Apple LCD display resolution:

Apple Cinema Display LCD Monitor 23 inch 1920 x 1200

Apple Cinema Display LCD Monitor 22 inch 1600 x 1024 (not manufacture anymore)

Apple Studio Display LCD Monitor 17 inch 1280 x 1024

I dont think to buy new apple display, maybe used. So i maybe search 22" if that 20" display dont be good choise to Windows XP. But 22" is very rarely, if i search it on ebay. Of course one good, safety and cheap choise is Apple 17" model.

The ability to display 1680x1050 is not regulated by the OS but rather the video card. If you videocard can do 1680 then you just need to get some Cinema Size wallpaper.

it depends BOTH on the OS and the Video Card. if you have a nVidia card it'll allow you to add some extra resolutions to it. i was able, for instance, to add 1400x1050 to my FX5200 on my 17 inch monitor. if you have a nVidia card and the latest drivers, just try that.

but u can use these resolutions in windows xp when using PowerStrip and creating a custom monitor driver so result will give u two black stripe ( like 16/9 films )

Note that u use powerstrip at ur own risk because it can damage ur monitor.

depending on who made your graphics card, you can download 'coolbits' for a nvidia card, I think ATI has a similar utility (ive never used ATI). The utility opens up TONS of options in the bios for you, from custom resulutions to overclocking stuff. Download it and just make a new custom reselution, easy as 3.1428 (im an engineer)

I tried on my own Nvidia GF4 TI-4200 (with Zalman VGA Heatpipe Cooler ZM80C-HP) and i surprise how easy was make new resolution in "Display/Nvidia properties" Section.

On those Omega Drivers screenshot i dont see that 1680x1050 resolution. Is any info if Radeon 9200/9600/9800 or some other Radeon card support 1680x1050 resolution.

I want buy new graphics card that is DirectX 9 and what is fast, and can use Zalman VGA Heatpipe Cooler ZM80C-HP without any fan. Zalman say if VGA Heatpipe Cooler used with NVIDIA GeForce FX 5800 or higher model, the noiseless fan (ZM-OP1) must be used. They also say if VGA Heatpipe Cooler used with ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, using the noiseless fan (ZM-OP1) is recommended.

I thinking buy Ati Radeon 9600 XT, but now i am not sure is that best solution to my use, if i want 20" Apple display. How good PowerStrip work, and is that sure that i can make that 1680x1250 resolution without problem?

I search some information that can i use ATI Radeon 9600XT with Apple 20" Display. I look all thread (Apple Cinema Display) what i find from PowerStrip official forum.

Newest Ati Radeo generation (9200/9600/9800) can handle Apple Cinema Display**** best. So NVIDIA graphics card is not recommend to Apple Cinema Display. Menge say that he can make own resolution with NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 card/drivers and that work perfect. Same here. I can make own resolution with NVIDIA GeForce Ti 4200 but this seem work only in regular CRT Monitor. 17" Apple Studio Display work in almost all graphics card (in Tietokone***** magazine they notice that Matrox dont work with Apple Studio Display when they test LCD Display).

i only have the ATI Original Driver installed...and the resolution is set to 1600x1050 automaticaly!

I have only one problem is. My ATI card switch to the dvi output only then, when XP loaded. So i have in DOS mode no picture on my display and so i have no boot screen. my solution is, to install a mini monitor on my analog output....

maybe somebody have a tip??

Your card may not have the ability to show the POST (bios) screen through DVI. Check ATI's site for a firmware upgrade. If they have not posted a fix, then you will need another card or use an analog monitor to tweak the bios. The ATI 9600 Pro in my wifes Dell just died last week and it could not show the BIOS screen. The replacement GeForce 5200 shows it just fine....
