Replacing Iexplorer.exe

I got a question,

for weeks Ive been trying to replace iexplorer.exe which I do with no problems but within 5 mins it always goes back to old one, is there a version somewhere on my comp besides Program Files/Internet Explorer/ thats overwriting my new one that I need to replace (like with dllcache etc?)

Ive replaced every other file with no problem its just this one that I cant get to work.

BTW: Im using XP Pro WITHOUT SP1

A: Not on my computer.

Just replace iexplorer.exe like you would explorer.exe/shell32.dll etc...

First of all it's iexplore.exe..

Since you use Windows XP without Service Pack 1 installed, a backup copy of this file is stored in a protected folder called dllcache..

To simply copy the file open a Run dialog and type the following

copy iexplore.exe %systemroot%\system32\dllcache

(For iexplore.exe type the path where that file is stored)

When doing so the system should pop-up a warning stating that 'System Files in dllcache have been replaced by unknown versions blah blah..'

Click on Cancel. Then go ahead and replace the iexplore.exe file in x:\program files\internet explorer\

(where x is the drive where the folder program files is located...normally C:\. I haven't tried this out myself because I simply delete all the files in the dllcache folder. John, please let me know if this works out for you)

P.S. Sometimes even after replacing the file the icon for iexplore.exe will not change. To fix that please rebuild your icon cache using TweakUI.
