The Best Internet Explorer Alternative...

Hey, I wanted to know what some of your openions on IE alternatives. I currently use IE and well, let's put it this way... IE can not be customized to look like a good Aqua-like browser. I'm trying to get some ideas, all that I know of is Netscape and Opera... I'm not really looking for half-finished browsers that are lacking configuration options, but if there is a really good half-finished one let me know... Thanks much for your openions, I will look around myself some more and if I find one I will notify you all...

Firebird all the way.

Likewise with Firebird.

I will, by the way, be releasing my update for MageGuru's Phoenix -> Safari tutorials this weekend. That's a promise.

Expect it within the next 24-48 hours.

I use Avant Browser. I would use Firebird but I can't seem to get the tab function to work without having to use ctrl+t. If there is someway to get the tabs like Avant, where links autmatically open in a new browser window, I would defintley switch over.

Is there any way to import our favorites from IE?

/karp

#90839

firebird should do it for you

#90850

In firebird, you can import IE favorites :

first time you install it, it automatically import them

Otherwise, you can export your IE favorites to an HTML file in IE and then import this file in Firebird

The best way to use tabs in firebird is to use middle button (for example your wheel button). click on a link whith middle button, it opens in a new tab

I use MYIE2 or AvantBrowser. For both you can customize the skins.

if you want only a skin to internet explorer with additional feature use MyIe, instead if you want a new browser use Mozilla Firebird ;)

#90879

Opera is wonderful. Has all the features you guys have mentioned in Firebird. Rock solid, too.

I've been trying to switch from Mozilla to FireBird but have been having some problems.

1. is there anyway to import the bookmarks from Mozilla to FireBird?

2. if mozilla and firebird are installed at the same time on the same computer, do they conflict with each other? I tried applying a theme to FireBird but it got royally "naughty word"ed up. so, do I need to uninstall Mozilla before I install FireBird?

#93842

Running the two on one machine shouldn't give you any problems. I had to run both for about a month before moving completely to Firebird. The bad theme experience may unfortunately be due to an incompatibility with the Firebird build and the theme.

The Mozillazine Forums should give you plenty more advice than I.

Edit: Oh yeah, I'm for Firebird as an alt. to Internet Explorer.

Well, if youre stuck with windows, there are two good options, one equals speed, (mozilla firebird) the other equals beautiful resemblance to safari (opera 7 with safa1.0 skin)

I'd suggest Avant Browser too. It has many nice features.. such as:

skinning, popup blocking, multiwindow support, full IE compatibility, IS FREE, has filters.. etc. The best browser I've seen. Though.. it is the best I've seen yet, but some people dont like it (claimed to have bugs - I havent seen any yet).

+ it has cute MACish skins :)

You can get some OSX themed skins from here :)

are all of LynchKnot's themes compatible with 0.7?

#93859

not all, sadly no. but theres is a very good tutorial by Stevie BM that will help you get your firebird looking macish

#93861

I did read that tutorial and it said to download one of Lynch's themes, which I did, and when I applied it, it got messed up...and that is why I posted here?

#93879

MyIE2 is very good also. It is very similar to avant browser both are based off IE core. MyIE2 has a lot of good skins and it very fast. Has built in pop up and ad blocking and of course it is tabbed and it also has tons of nice nifty plug ins. To download it go to http://www.myie2.com and most of the skins for it are at http://www.skinnable.com

MyIE2 all the way!!

#93890

I don't know. I'm using the 1109 build, 0.7+, along with Lynchknot's Experimental Safari theme. No problems. It all depends on when the build was.. built.

I believe that around the beginning of December all the builds need updated themes, so I've stuck with my November build without any problems.

#93897

is there anyway you can send me this build?

#93898

this is kinda off-topib, but I'd like to know what makes MyIE2 better than avant browser? You probably have used it :) is it any good?

#93899

networker is a danm cool browser dude !!! give it a try and it is free !! no need to pay a single $
