Visual Style Modification

i know jack all about style builder but have an idea that i think may look rather cool.

i love Kol's styles and especially the Milk styles but i think that it would look rather special with lime style buttons and scrollers instead of white ones, kind of the way other styles have aqua colors except with lime instead of aqua, would it be possible for anyone to modify Milk like that ?

well, i always think it's best that one mod a theme for himself (or herself). that way, one gains the experience and ability to do further modding, plus one can achieve the desired look.

i can teach you how to mod the scrollbar colors and buttons. it's actually quite simple.

1. first, see what kind of style you want. do you want sunken? do you want the milk style, but lime? do you want aqua style buttons?

2. if you can find a style that you want, remember it. you'll need to hack that theme later. if you cannot, you'll need to edit an image or recolor it.

3. so let's begin! open up resource hacker (if you don't have it, pick it up here: http://www.users.on.net/johnson/resourcehacker/) and open up the aqua visual style (use any aqua one, since that's basically the scrollbar you want). browse to the bitmap section and find the scrollbar images (usually called scrollbarvertical_bmp or something like that) and you should find the vertical bar and the horizontal bar. now, highlight one and extract the bitmap by selecting the "save bitmap" action. save it somewhere like the desktop. repeat for the other scrollbar.

4. now, open up the scrollbar in an image editor like photoshop. change the colors by playing with the hues. once you get the lime color you desire, save the image.

5. open up the milk visual style with resource hacker. browse to the same place, but this time, choose "replace bitmap" and select your new bitmap and replace. save the visual style, and that's it! you have replaced the milk scrollbar with a lime one.

6. for the buttons, simply do the same thing. you'll find the buttons with names like "minglyph." in any case, the process is the same. simply edit or recolor the buttons (either from the milk theme or from some other theme) and replace and save. just a note: there are other buttons besides those three min/max/close buttons, and you might need to do a bit of searching. or else you'll be stuck with some buttons that are out of style. to facilitate the process, you can also try resbuilder, which allows you to directly edit images: http://www.tgtsoft.com/
