Just curious, has anyone tried installing SP2 on your PC? I heard if you did so, some of the modding (visual styles, logins...) will be lost. Can anyone verify?
Windows Xp Sp2
I meant the beta version, its released to testers and ...... (anything more would get me banned)
YES- SP is released to beta testers. I have it installed and 1.) I messes up Visual Styles (uxtheme.dll has changed- but someone over in the Neowin Forums has already re-patched it), 2.) It messes up ALL of the new features in WindowsBlinds 4.2 (ie- the skins custom animations and custom toolbars no longer work) 3.) If you have any modified system files (ie- AquaTransfomation packs), about 90% of those files are replaced and most of the modifications that were done are history. 4.) The new ICF (internet connection firewall is enabled by default- on my computer I found a bug where I couldn't access the ICF settings to change anything-therefore, all of my apps that need to communicate with the outside world cannot.
I'm usually a pioneer with new software, but this was too much for me to handle. I have my 'puter set up just the way I like it and MS has already decided for us that we can't have our OS' look the way we like. I re-formatted my hard-drive and restored the GHOST image I made just before I installed SP2. Thank God for GHOST.
Gosh, I guess when SP2 comes out, I'll format and get all the updates done to the XP, and then replace resources with batchmod & Flyakite's system files.

i've installed it and it works cool. i love the new features of internet explorer like pop up blocker, and new built in firewall seems to be great.
I highly doubt that the built-in fw is good. I would never use it ![]()

hmm i think it's a good built-in fw
Cherrysoul: You can't replace the system files until Flyakite modifies them to be compatible with SP2.
No probs here with SP2 V.2055, picked up a new themepatcher and I'm back in business. None of the sysfile replacements will probably work of course, but that's nothing unexpected, it is a whole new Service pack after all. But msstyles work fine and so do iconpacks. Looks just like it did before ![]()
Oh, so does Y'z toolbar, Y's shadows and Mobeydock etc.
Hey Smeggy- do you have an actual "automatic" theme patcher, or just a fixed uxtheme.dll that you had to manually install?

what do u use for icon packs? stardock?
I have heard a lot of horror stories about people installing this beta pack on their Primary pcs especially with 3rd party apps (like norton)
I read the specifications for the new firewall/port configuration/ie browser features and I may very well do without sygate when this comes out...
No Links to SP2 Beta please unless offically released by ms.

I could have sworn I already said that here...
But we've had so many SP2-related threads, who knows <_<
If the pop up blocked is all you're after, Google's Google Bar has those built in features.
I recommend it
