Msn Messenger 6.1.0203...

Hi, Within the last couple of weeks I have had a strange activity with my MSN Messenger 6.1.0203, and my cursor...Sometimes, when I open the Messenger window to send a IM my cursor (I use Flyakite's Panther cursor theme/same as Binary's) will remain in its 'active state' with the multi-coloured spinning ball...Now I do use theunknown's great Panther/Aqua skin, but this is not causing this dam 'active state' of my cursor to occur...

I have even reinstalled the default MSN Messenger 6.1.0203, and at times, my cursor will remain in this 'active state'...It will remain like this for a day, then the next day or so when I open up Messenger window, all will be fine, with no strange cursor activity...

I have checked my TaskMng, and there is no elevation of system resources, when this occurs, but there must be some thing within my system that is causing this weird activity...

P.S. btw, thinking that it was maybe the Panther cursor theme, I then switched to WinXP Luna msstyle, and when I put the default WinXP cursor on the Messenger window, the 'hour glass' activity function came on...This seems to come on one day, then goes away, and works perfectly well for a couple of days...Very strange.

well it could be that the msn is trying to conet to any other computer. or sombody is trying to conect to the msn. i have norton internet security and i monitor all the internet traffic of my programs and sometimes for some reason it says a remote system is trying to conec to msn even the msn is closed. this is weird cause it is not supposed to conect unles you are on line. i block when it says that adn the msn works normal. try to reinstall the msn, maybe it could help and go to tools option and disable the option that says allow this program to run in the background. i do it and it works fine anyway

also a good thing is if you disable the messenger sevice in control panel, its only bring you anoying ads

Yes, I am trying to determine what might be causing this 'un-normal cursor activity' on my Messenger window...When I go to Administrative Tools--->Services--->I have always disabled Messenger in here, (this of course does not releate to either Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger), but is an un-needed service that can be a annoyance...

As for my MSN Messenger settings, I always uncheck: 'Run Messenger when I log on to Windows' and check 'Allow automatic sign-in when connected to internet'...

I too have Norton SystemWorks & Personal Firewall, and can't see any un-normal activity relating to MSN Messenger, regarding a remote system trying to connect...

I have set the default WinXP Internet Connection Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing Feature to 'Manual' thinking somehow when this was set to 'Automatic' (which is was), maybe something here, was causing this un-normal active cursor activity...

Today, thus far opening up MSN Messenger window multiple times, and placing my cursor on parts of the window, have 'not' produced this issue, but this has happened before...Oh well, will keep a wary eye on it, for it is very annoying trying to figure out what the hell is causing this when it happens again...

P.S. Always have 'unchecked' Allow Microsoft to collect anonymous information...ect, ect., as part of their quality control program...Yea right, lol...

P.S.S. Also, I do have Windows Messenger disabled, for I do not use or have a need for this feature...I do not think that this could be the culprit, for they are unrelated...

Hmmm, well I ended up installing the most updated version: 6.1.0207...And even befoe connecting to the internet, I opened up the MSN Messenger window (while the default systray icon had a red x) and when placing my cursor on the main window, it immediately went into 'active mode'...lol.

So I then connected to the internet, and my Norton Firewall stated, "A remote system is attempting to access Messenger on your system"...then I investigated what this remote system was and found out the following:

It was Inbound UDP Packet: e450.voice.microsoft.com...I then 'blocked it' and all was fine with chatting and no abnormal cursor activity...Rebooted and when my Firewall stated the same thing, I chose this time, to 'permit'...opened up Messenger window, and cursor was spinning & spinning...being active...

So bottom line, is I edited the rule for this Inbound UDP packet from Microsoft, to allow everything but 'block' this...and now opening up any Messenger window, absolutely 'No-abnormal' cursor activity...Being that 6.1 Messenger is still beta...who the hell knows...

Hopefully now my issue is finally solved...

EDIT*** Well it worked without any 'abnormal cursor activity' for about 4-5 hrs of surfing, but then opeining up a Messenger window and placed my cursor on the window, and immediately it went into 'active mode'...so what else is new... :cry:
