News - Windows Xp Sp2 Beta 1, Out Now!

Prepare for security, but prepare for you transformation pack to be slashed :'(

Maybe beta tester that have this build, can share it to Flyakite , Croka99 or whatever to be prepare for this release.

Iexbeta reports a build of Windows XP sp2 has been released to selected testers on widowsbeta.microsoft.com. I have been accepted for the beta but I can not see anything there yet.

Alongwith the SP2 Beta-1 download, Microsoft has also released Post-Beta Release notes, Service Pack 2 Deployment Guide & Service Pack 2 Hot Fix Deployment Guide as part of documentation. Changes to Functionality in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 were already released few days ago at Microsoft Download Center

The file size for SP2 beta-1 is 212.53 MB.

I was just about to ask what this will do to our transformation packs. I know how to edit uxtheme.dll with reshacker myself to make it SP2 compatible, but the rest of it is out of my league. I am wondering how SP2 will effect (if at all) those of with with "corporate" builds.

Looks like I'll definitely by Ghosting before I install this puppy.

I thought SP1 broke "corporate" builds. That's why I didn't install it for a very long time. Until I found a erm, different corporate build.

The info I've found on reshacking uxtheme.dll is sketchy at best. Could you post the location of the part of uxtheme you need to change or where I could read up on it?

Thanks.

Septimus, all you should need to do is change a version number in the .dll. You should be able to use a hacked SP1 .dll with the version number changed to reflect SP2. Let me open the .dll up and point you to exactly what you have to change.

*Edit- I'm d/l'ing SP2 off of WindowsBetaWeb now, let me try it for myself to see if this works.

Thanks :)

Just found that SP2 also disables WindowBlinds 4.2 Toolbar Skinning :(

But XP does boot faster with it and the firewall is excellent.

YES! (Y) But does it log on faster too?

Only by seconds.... but I guess it will vary depending on your PC

I got rid of SP2- My system is heavily Aquified, and it only screwed it up. I'll re-install it after it's finalized and Stardock/TGSoft have had a chance to update their apps. Not to mention Flyakite/Pack/and Croka 99 need to update their installers. Updating their installers/files is would be futile now, they need to wait until SP2 is finalized.

new sp2 firewall is much better now. more customizeable then b4. they also changed the way they handle wi-fi networks too.

And StyleXP & StyleBuilder is going to be SP2-ready soon. -_-

Be careful what you say, people

If I find anyone posting links (or "hinting" at links) to the SP2 beta aside from the official Windows beta sites, the person (or persons) involved will receive an automatic suspension for 3 days.

Also, anyone discussing their involvement in piracy from this point onwards* will receive the same penalty. You have been warned.

*The comment about "different corporate builds" being piracy talk to me - those who legally have corporate copies of XP got replacement keys if theirs were broken. No need to find a "different corporate build" if you own a legal copy <_<

UXTheme.dll for SP2. I hope it works...

I'll wait till Microsoft releases XP with sp2 integrated and download it from MSDN center with an account provided legally by my college (and it's free). If you are in college you should look in to it.
