[help] Using A Tv As A Monitor

Hey,

I recently purchased a geforce fx5200 with svideo. My tv has an svideo port on the back and i have a svideo cable that came with the video card. If i hooked the wire up to the svideo ports on both the video card and tv, would i be able to use my tv as a monitor?

yes, but tv reselutions suck, and they 'burn' in. When a pixel is a cirtin color for too long, its bad for the TV.

I aggree with lostspyder, tvs arent the best for displays for PC's, there are high end video cards i heard that may clear it up a little but the resolution needs to be very low which most cards dont do. I have a Geforce 3 Titanium card and the only reason I use the TV out is for is to view images and video which suprisingly shows up nicely. But as far as day to day computer using I would say stick to your pc.

burn in doesn't happen with normal tv's like that. you would have to leave it on for years. it doesnt happen with the health bars in console games and it doesnt happen with your comp monitor either...

Ya what they said.. and a TV is 640x480 isn't it? Or something around there.

It'd be good to DivX out though. HEH. Gotta find a way to get the audio as well though.

These work fairly well: you plug in the video out of your video card and the audio out of the sound card and it sends the signal wirelessly to the tv (Y) , only problem is that they use the 2.4 GHz frequency which is the same as wifi so they interfere with each other.... and with microwave ovens... and some wireless phones... :rant:

The highest HDTVs are only 1080i. Basically, every new monitor can do AT LEAST that, and usually more.

Normal TVs are only 480x320. So yeah, crap. That's why consoles can look so good for so long (xbox can rival many PCs). Its because they only have to spit it out at 480x320. That takes a lot less power. Though, the XBOX CAN display some games at 720P. I know SW: KOTOR can (mmm...jedi).

i like starwars too. well anyway if you have an ati all-in-wonder you can set it at 16:9 resolution (forget the exact one. i think something like 848x480) and it can also do 800x600 and 640x480. nothing bigger but hey unless i'm using composite it looks pretty good. i also have s-video.

i have ati all in wonder,but tv is fot tv...i mean the only way to hook up the pc whit the tv is for any unusual use. better use the monitor.tv needs movement and it could be not good fot the tv to use it as a monitor.although for educational purpose in the schools are very used, so students can see waht the proffesor is doing.
