$155 asus intel mobo (get the latest one, forget waht its called...but its good). it's expensive for a mobo but has dual integrated network adapters, colored slots that glow different colors with a black light
$300 the 3.2 GB P4 with HT after P4EE comes out...3.2 ghz prices will drop
$250 1 GB Corsair PC 3200 RAM (corsair is...good...to put it at the least)
$250 32 GB 10000 RPM hard drive (use it for fast data accessing like game data)
$150 80 GB 7200 RPM hard drive (for long term data that won't change or that you dont need speed from)
I'm going to run into trouble here:
the best $200 ATI Radeon 9600 128 MB (not 256 MB, nothing uses that much ram yet. by the time games do, you'll want a new video card. my reasoning with getting top of the line is that either card will run current games. in the future in the same amount of time you will want the new vid card and junk your $500+tax card.)
nVidia is awesome, yes, but go with the ATI. it's getting better benchmarks for now. of course things change. but hey, whatever. if you want triple monitor support and go for the slower, more expensive Parhelia you deserve to waste your money. i salute you for your stupidity.
$5 black lites
(dont buy extra fans...ur getting a good deal with the case i'm telling you though the case design is rather out there. love it or hate it.)
$200 Thermaltake Xaser 3 case (www.thermaltake.com take a look at it)

All in all you are spending $1355 about for an awesome computer. argue all you want. in two weeks this will be out of date. until then, spend your $1355 well on a new, powerful computer that has the looks to back it all up.

on a seperate note, i got 1007 3d marks on my system. is that good? it's on 3dmark2003. here's my system (i was about to build the system on top at the beginning of the school year except make the 3.2 HT p4 a 2.8 p4 and downgrade to a radeon 9600...i went with the following instead for portability)
dell notebook computer: 3.0 ghz p4 with HT, 512 MB 2700 ddr, 40 gb 4200rpm (its a notebook, its the fastest they had), 1600 x 1200 native resolution UXGA screen, radeon 9000 mobility (GRR they have the 9600 mobility! i want it! but its all integrated on this stupid things).
