Use The Search Function Replies

More and more I posts with a "****ie" asking a question where to find for example the iMail mod by Pack. Nothing wrong with this, but the answer I get to see most of the time now is "Use the Search function" with the according link.

But isn't it the purpose of a forum like A-S & AquaXP to help eachother out when something occurs. It seems to me A-S is more and more turning into a forum where only things are published and noone is beeing helped, I'm sorry to see this happening to a wonderful community you've all build up here.

This is just my opinion on what's happening to this community, in order to keep expanding and make this community more fun than it already is I think we all need to take a little more time answering threads that contain a question that for "veterans in aquafying" is quite obvious but for a "greenhorn in aquafying" a question to stop the modification, and therefor not beeing a possibly great resource of help for A-S

Nice is good. And when someone has a real question, people are always quick to answer.

But laziness is not a good thing. If everytime someone is trying to find something, they just went ahead and started a brand new topic, the boards would be flooded with pointless posts. It's like when you were in school, and you'd ask the teacher a question, and they'd be like, "it's in your book", "but ya, just tell me". "ok it's in your book, in chapter 3".. "PPPLLLEAAZZE I CANT FIND IT"... "ok fine, it's on page 23".

People need to take some initiative to help themselves, before asking everyone to do their work for them. IMO.

Seriously, though, there's a reason that there are more and more replies referring people to the site search - it's because people don't bother looking there, and they make it quite obvious in their posts.

I know it can be quite frustrating for a ****ie to get told to search but, as I have explained before, there is a lot of duplicated content here, just because people are too lazy for their own good.

We can only begin helping each other once we begin helping ourselves.

i am all about us helping each other as a community, but i think that before asking for help, people should try to help themselves. there are over 3 years worth of posts here and a lot of ground has been covered. with that wealth of information, i think it is not too difficult for a person who is looking for an email mod or a skin or a link or whatever to take 5 minutes to search. of course it is easier just to post and wait for someone to say here's a link, but you can probably guess what that "advanced member" had to do to get the link. shy of memorizing the address and context of every post, they too probably had to use the search button, probably set the results to 'any date' and do the work.

that being the case, if someone does search and can't find something or if all the links are down, or if they're missing a key word, then it could be advisable to make a new thread.

I think it boils down to a matter of who is going to be the one to spend the time to do the search - whether it be the person looking for the item in question, or someone else who is to do thier dirty work. That is probably the main reason why i haven't started too many threads recently - 95 percent of the time i can find the answer on the boards for myself, it just takes effort.

I agree on people need to stop calling other members ****IES! and telling them to search, because half the time searching does not give you the results you would want from a member.

Say I post a thread like 5000 others on how to install a video card in my comp.

90% of the time now people say search the forum.

what if I want a reply that is dedicated to me and it just might be worded much better and help me get through my problem fast....

Yeah, if someone asks I think there's a tendency to jump on them (as someone did to me, recently ) instead of seeing that there often are no useful results.

Nah, not at all.

Just like recently I can think of two different people asking about CD-Rom/DVD-Rom problems, and people were quick to reply with suggestions. Everytime there is a linux orientated question, people reply with honest answers.

Everytime there is a question of 'WHAT R GOOD THEME 4 ME KTHX!@" people say STFF. It's completely different. If someone needs unique help, unique help they shall receive. But if someone is asking for help on something which is half the time PINNED, they get the STFF answer. I've been there, done that. I've been told to STFF U STPID IDIOT. I think the biggest thing people don't realize is the search after date thing. It took me a few times to realize that the default was 30 days.. maybe you should bump the default up to the "Any Date" timan.

Hey guys please tell me I never told anyone to STFF. If I did - what I don't remember - please accept my apologies.

And - what is the problem to post a link to respective thread (even if pinned) instead of posting STFF. Search engine might be confusing, it's based on logic which isn't 'fully supported' by human brain.
