My CD-RW drive has recently quit working, but heres the funny thing: If i click it in My Computer (CD or no CD in the drive) then it will show that there is a CD with nothing on it, even if i put in a regular CD or something. This recently happenedto my uncles compuer so we have the same problems.

You may try going into Device Manager. And removing it from your list of cd-rom drives. Then reboot, upon reboot Windows should reinstall all the drivers for it.
Worth a try anyway.
Had the same thing happen to me....ended up returning the drive to Costco, o ya and it wouldnt read the cd at all.

Tried but to no avail... Thanks for the suggestion though.
here's a list of solutions it may be:
The drive could be bad.
The laser could require re-calibration.
You may have a faulty IDE cable or connection.
You may have an IDE Controller communication issue which can sometimes be corrected by the installation of ASPI drivers.
do you have another computer you can put it into to see if it's the drive? if it works somewhere else, then it's something software involved in this computer. use another IDE cable also to test it....
I will look into that, the odd part is that my Uncle's computer now has the same problem... Which is ironic 
then you might want to ask your dr. about a family medical problem involving cooties... that's been known to disrupt cd-rom activity... but beware... kids in the playground might make fun of you because you have them 
well dav happenet to me a few days ago and it was the ide cable that wasnt good. you can try other ide cable. also waht you can do is reset you mother board, take the battery out for a couple minutes or hit the reset button on the mobo, lets see waht happens. you can also chek the manufacturer web site of your drive to see if they have any firmware upgrade, hope it help you.
also try justy to boot whit the cdr drive...alone if you have another drive in the same ide chanel.
