[help] Sound Problems

every now and then, my music will skip, but it's not a very bad skip, just a little blip. my system is tweaked pretty well, and i'm using the onboard soundstorm with the latest drivers from nvidia.

is there anything i can do? maybe configure the onboard audio, or try different input/output winamp plugins?

it wasn't like before, and i used the older drivers from the cd abit provided, but after a reformat, i decided to try the nvidia ones.

driver reinstallation doesn't seem to help.

i've also tried the mad plugin, and configured the directsound plugin to have a high buffer, etc., but i still get the skipping. not sure what else i can try.

it seems to happen when i type, not really when i do anything else. very weird.

this is probably a directx problem ( check version of sub-files )

and plan to buy a sound card, an SB 5.1 for ex. is cheap now and u will feel difference

because the sound chip on motherboard use a lot of proccessor recourses

also, i thought the nforce2 onboard audio was supposedly really good.

If it's MP3's your playing, and you get a blipp it's probably due to an error in the rip.

it happens in songs that never had problems before, so it's not the mp3 files.

did you check the hard drive to see if is fragmented? aso try another player, it looks like something whit direct x, so you could reistall the latest version to se what happen.

and another thing..chek if theres any unwanted program running in the bacground, sometimes it happens and take a lot of proccesor power.

i defrag every day (whenever i'm not using it, i just defrag or scan), configured directsounds plugins, optimized my system through reg tweaks and disabling programs/services, and i have dx9.0b installed.

it's probably an nforce2 driver issue or an irq issue, so i'll take a look at those when i get back from break.

yeah i know i could change the priority, and i can even change that within winamp itself, but i want to figure out why it's happening, since it didn't happen before the reformat.

I'm actually recieving the very same exact error dreamz is/was. I have the newest version of Direct X. I just bought a new PC and i'm actually using a sound blaster 5.1 and I've turned off the onboard sound in the BIOS. It happens mostly when I type or when an app makes a noise. Please could someone help it's driving me insane.

ahh, i forgot about this thread. i solved the problem by changing the computer setting in device manager from acpi uniprocessor to acpi. for some reason, acpi seems to handle things better.

what board do you have?

oh, it's not an nforce2 board. that fix might not help you. it's not usually recommended because it reduces the number of irqs.

anyways, i've attached a pic of how to do it. just go to update drivers.

have you tried using hardware acceleration in the player's (e.g. winamp) options? does the problem persist through reformats? is something taking up cpu usage?

device manager > computer > you'll see something under computer > properties > drivers > update drivers. it probably won't work, though.

yeah it does it after a format also, I notice that it seems that the system halts causing the bllllppp noise. It does this when I use Media players while browsing on Firefox. The weird thing is it's not a problem with lack of memory because while doing this im only using 30% of my RAM usually.

I was just informed that the VIA chipsets are junk and could be the problem. Oh well i only have to use this thing for another month until I get my new AMD 64FX baby.

I've had similar problems with the nforce audio. I would get alot of scratchy noises coming from the speakers when there is high cpu usage. After replacing the speakers i knew it was the soundcard. I ended up uninstalling the Nvidia Soundstorm drivers, and using realtek's ac97 drivers.

i'm using soundstorm now and it's great. no problems anymore.

yeah, i've never liked via or sis chipsets, which is why i went for nforce2. not sure what else to suggest. i'd take a look at irqs and make sure the soundcard has its own.
