A Feature That Will Be Added To The Next Od...

I wrote a feature request on the StarDock Usenet newsgroug, Jeff B. replied, here is the conversation:

Yep, this feature has already been added for the next release ;)

You can have ObjectDock always on top, always on bottom, or have it float

inbetween (normal z-ordering)

I think Yz is not slower than OD. that is why I changed my dock from OD to Yz yesterday. ;)

OD's frame is worst when the icons not being accessed for a period of time. but yz still maintain it's frame rate at any time . it is like OD is hibernating and need to wake it up , and then it will be okay again. the only reason I return to Yz.

I hope jef will fix that.

And also Yz uses less resources than OD. also hope jef will fix that also. with advanced features, maybe lower it a bit. :P

besides the z-ordering option and improved magnification.

if there are in next release, I might consider return to ObjectDock again :D:lol::D:lol::D:lol:

I think you have it mixed up there ;) For me Y'z dock keeps slowing down the more it's ran, it's not a consistant speed, sometimes it even starts off really slow untill I remove and readd an item. ObjectDock on the other hand, will also slow down after a long period of use, but at least it's speed is somewhat consistant most of the time :) The only things that have pissed me off about OD lately is that I cant use the show desktop shortcut anymore, and I cant have blanked text spacers anymore, now they say "ObjectDock". Also in this build the icons seem to keep getting stuck in the 128 position all the time.

I hope they allow for blank icons again, or add an option to add separators anywhere on the dock.

Oh well, still great work :)

i'm talking about the speed of responsiveness the OD have when not being accessed for a period of time. I need to wake the icons up by moving my mouse around the icons on the dock until they reach the normal speed again. it happen just a few seconds, then it will be ok. with yz, at any time, when I move the mouse to the icons, it still respond to the mouse and magnify it instantly and smoothly. i know the speed of yz will decrease when more icons are added. but that is not what i'm talking about

well i have to say that Yz in a way is a bit more quicker for magnification.. first off OD has got to fix its magnification effect better then it is.... i can also see in some spots OD sorta chugging in the magnification.. Although Icon dragging is Realllly fast in this.. The spacing for height wise is also off.. its too sruntched in height wise.i still have to stick to YZ as it has the best feel and Magnification.. if jeff fixes his magnification to be like or better then YZ.. he will win me over.. heheh

But i love both of them.. i have OD and YZ running.. just becaue they both have unique features...

I think that is my problem with Y'z, I have 20 dock icons. With only a few icons, it's a lot more responsive.

Ever since I changed the priority of ObjectDock to High, I never had any slowdown problems. Even if I don't touch the computer for a couple of hours, as soon as I move the mouse to the dock, it quickly responds smoothly without any start-up stutters. I couldn't get Y'z dock to respond as smoothly as ObjectDock... even with only 10 icons.

#7537

thats pretty weird.. i have 22 icons in yz dock and it responsd really fast.. but then again i have a 2.4ghz cpu and Geforce4.. so maybe thats the reason..

i have to admit objectdock does feel silky in some areas (silky= smooth) lol

GOSH GEE... and I only have a measly 128 meg Pentium III 800 with a 32 meg GeForce 2 GTS. :o

I hope this:

" You can have ObjectDock always on top, always on bottom, or have it float in between (normal z-ordering)"

not the only thing , on next version of OD.

see Yz is the most accurate dock so far mainly because of magnification effect and its light animation engine (1.8ghz p4, g4, 784RDram).

BUT OD, definately has way more functions, more reactive to windows and absolutly smooth. The bouncing icons are incredibley great and the animation is really good. I used to use OD a lot actually.

you can even click on a running application and it will minimize any window no matter if its an aqua-soft appli. That rocks.

However, lately after getting my mac, i noticed that OD's magnificaion engine (not speed or fps) is different and not really resembles the osx mag like yz. the difference between yz and OD is that if you mouse over the dock REALLY REALLY quick you will clearly see that yz is reacting instantly as if there is a magnification glass over the icons, while in OD it kinda gets draggy and liquid looking.

now you guys can say, well dont mouse over so fast, but i say, if yz can do it, so can od or moby.

a typical example for that case of "liquid" movement of the icons happens mostly when im using heavy softwares in general, both yz and od rock, though i can clearly see the differences without mouse over the dock quickly, cause the system is "draggy" already and the magnification in YZ isnt mushy looking, it simply zooms the icons instantly.

though i know that in the future, jeff will combine OB's technology with OD and that will take down anything else besides it, cause you would be able to have skinned menus in an instant click and make themes for it lik OB.

Im looking forward to see Yz next release, and same goes to JMB - i already understood that there is a "corrected" magnification effect, so my post here might useless ;)

Couldnt of said it better goku.. i noticed that on OD when you move your mouse over it realll fast.. that its all smudgy liquidy like.... non the less its still a great app.. but magnification is the heart of the dock i personaly think :).. fix that.. and you win me over...

Coudlnt of said it better goku. When will jeff release his next version anyways??
