What does everyone think of MSN Messenger 6.1? I think it rocks but that may be to do with me having a Mac OS X skin (kindly provided by Xero
)
Msn Msger 6.1
who uses singular messengers anymore?
certainly not me or many others I know.
but then again, there are still people who torture themselves by using AOL or Dial-Up internet, so..I guess it takes all kinds.
i use it, simply bcos ppl know if they want to talk to me thats where they come, they dont have to chase me through chat networks and forums. but thats just me.
-The Unknown
I use it because that's what the bulk of my friends (both online and real life) use.
I use it. Just because I'm used to it. And if people want to chat with me, then they have to find a means of getting to me, rather than me getting to them.
I use only MSN too. Because ICQ, Aim, Yahoo..i don't like them..MSN is fastest!
So, like TheUnknown said, if anyone wanna talk to me, come online to MSN network ![]()
PS.: Oh! yeah, and we have theunknown's great skins

None of you are getting my point.
I have MSN too...on Trillian
and the bonus is that I have 3 names logged in at once, along with my 9 AIM's, 2 Yahoo's, 2 ICQ's, and numerous IRC's
I just dont get why ppl would use proprietary IM's..they're so bloated and full of Spyware and ads and are also VERY susceptable to Virii.
In addition, there is always Miranda as well...
(HAHA...I Beat you Miranda-philes to mentioning it)
heheheheeheeee
I tried Trillian and wasn't that impressed to be hnoest. But then again the only IM i use is MSN anyway so there was no opint in keepin it...
btw whats Miranda?

Some of us are, but, for me, it's moot.
I don't use my Yahoo, AIM and ICQ accounts any more - everyone I used them to speak to uses MSN now, so why bother using a piece of software whose raison d'être is to facilitate simultaneous use of multiple IM networks?
That, and I tried Trillian (and Miranda and GAIM) for a brief period, and I simply didn't like them for one reason or other.
Define "bloated"?
With regards to spyware, ads and virii, what makes Trillian any less susceptible? And isn't Trillian effectively an ad for Trilian Pro?
i use MSN simpy because it has voice and webcam, which trillian doesnt seem to do....

As far as I am aware, Trillian only currently supports webcams with the Yahoo messenger protocol. I'm pretty confident that MSN cam support is in the works, but on the other hand, MSN has been giving multi-protocol messengers hell as of late.
I personally connect with GAIM, since I just switched to Linux (kopete pisses me off).
But if you're on Windows, and you use more than one messenger service (two is enough), Trillian is the way to go. It might be a little sluggish on slower machines, but it beats having your CPU eaten up by a single instance of each ICQ, AIM, Y!m, MSN, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, Bah humbug.
good advice Liron... but I'm stickin with MSN for now...

Odd that everyone you know uses MSN now. But..ok. To each there own, but for me, if someone I knew 2 years ago wants to contact me, I like having that option available. i.e. keeping old nicks running. Hence why I have so many IM names running at once.
As for bloated; I mean the useless memory hogging options and poor programming. At least Trillian streamlines most processes.
With regards to spyware, ads and virii:
First, I use trillian pro.
second, there was recently(last week) a virus being passed thru AIM's client.
Third, there was a previous virus being passed around Yahoo.
Fourth, MSN's own servers were attacked and it seemed Trillian found a fix before Microsoft did.
Fifth, Trillian, AND Trillian Pro, has no ads or adware.
Sixth, I get no cheesy 'cyber-porn' invites. I did with Yahoo's IM.
Seventh, Trillian isn't susceptable to the virii that takes advantage of proprietary IM programming.

That's fair enough...
I, however, have never had any problems with MSN, and it's so long since I used AIM, ICQ or Yahoo for more than 5 minutes that those accounts don't matter that much to me anymore.
As for problems with MSN, I've had so few problems that I think I could probably call it one of the most reliable apps I use on a day to day basis. Almost as reliable as Windows Server 2003 has been for me, which is saying a lot - my work machine hasn't been rebooted in about 5 months now, save for crappy software installations that demand it.
Windows Messenger 4.7 all you need, doesnt have that bulky crap, and comes installed with windows. How easier could it possibly get? ![]()
Trillian the feel to the app just over all is cheap. I dont like the way the windows interact and all... Plus you must use a skin aswell which is another downside.
i use msn 6 and i have no problems, i dont find it slow or memory hogging on my system.. even then cause i can afford the resources to spend to apps. Other apps just are not the same with the new msn6 protocol with custome emoticons and user pics.. you may say well there useless.. well okay, but there fun, add cool feeling and intreactive ness to your chats. Also voice and webcams work in msn so i can "talk" and see my buds.. as well as msn games.. i got the "add more msn games" so i can play a load of games with the person imn talking to on msn
even tho im more of a linux fan all in out then microsoft.. but i actually like msn.
everyone has there opinions. and i dont use more then 1 IM sometimes ICQ

I haven't had any troubles with msn 6.1, but afew of my friends have. When they upgraded to msn 6.1 they are able to sign in but then within a minute they get kick out of msn, that process is on going. When I upgraded that never happened to me. I added the OS X msn 6.1 skin and it makes msn look alot better
, and it also goes will with my Panther theme.
I used to use trillian and I thought it was great, but the logging sucked. I always log my conversations and with DeadAIM on AIM they get logged to an individual HTML file for each day. Trillian just put them ALL in the same *.txt file. I didn't like that too much, so I switched back.
i use msn and no one i no uses aim, icq etc.
major prob i hav with trillian (i tried it) is that i found it impoissible 2 get pics in msn, like msn 6.1 does - how do u do it (96x96) if it cant do it, its pretty crappy, despite it bein much easier and betta 2 skin (p.s. theunknown, u rule at skinnin!)
