Animated Snowflake Wallpaper

I'm sure most people have seen Orange's snowflake wallpaper View Thread. Would it be possible to make a similar background with snowflakes that float down your screen? I thought this might be a pretty neat Christmas project for anyone that knows how to do it.

I threw this together really quickly using flashMX. If you set the html file as your active desktop you can have it animated. I made two versions. One in 1280x1024 another in 1024x768. Here is a preview of what it will look like on your screen. You can download the zip here

over at wincustomize.com there is a new post that includes a christmas them. If you get DesktopX there is this little thing that will add snow flakes (3d looking as well)

And it's on your desktop rather than the wallpaper so you can have any wall underneath it.

there are programs for doing this. i have a snow program running (doesn't use any cpu pretty much on my system).

You guys should check out the some of the widgets from desktop x pro.

They don't require desktop x and they come in standlone exe and on of them has snowflakes falling all over your screen.

Just wondering how u did that within flash. Is it scripted to randomly create the snow or is it some movies clips moving on the screen ??

I have a script that will randomly generate a movie clip on the screen as fast or as slow as u want it too.

If u wanna use that let me no.

all these programs use alot of CPU power except the one that CrusaderSean posted. And that one looks like a win98 program and cost $. This is a really cool idea, but I guess I need to worry about CPU power more.

I was thinking about something like this: The snowflakes should tumble, rotate, twirl “transform” so you get the feeling that the snowflakes really falls down, also size is important, would give the animation depth... so the snowflake don't look so flat… Perhaps some big “wind engine” that the snowflakes reflects on. This may take some time… I don’t know. Would there be any problems in flash, making this? I’m not a hacker in Action Script... But my idea is clear, so I leave the scripting to you… So if anyone knows how to animate this, I love to see a demo of it. I would love to see a screensaver version of it.

I’m a sucker for nice screensavers, but I get no work done…
