What Ram For A Mac

im gonna do the biz and get myself an eMac pretty soon but im not too happy with it only having 128 meg of ram to start with so i want to beef it right up with more, what im wondering is if any ram you buy for pc's works in Macs.

can i go to any computer shop and buy the type of ram required and know it will work or do macs use there own type of ram ?

most ram will work, but i recommend going to Crucial or TranIntl and look up the kind of ram it takes. better prices than apple's webpage, and more likely it work than buying a stick blindly and hoping it works

eMacs just use standard SDRAM.

You can get this cheap, like $10 for 256MB at BestBuy or CompUSA. Just wait for a sale. They have them often.

Heh, just be glad you don't have to try to find ram for a Powermac 9500 (at a decent price).

I got generic ram at Fry's. 512mb of pc2700 sodimm laptop ram for 99 dollars.

I have a eMac, it requires standard 133Mhz SDRam, it a has two user slots, one already has the 128 MB ram in, so grab a 512 to make 640, shoud be fine, though if you can, buy 2 x 512 MB chips and you have the maximum for the eMac. Its standard ram, its not specific to the Mac.

wat about g5's? do they use special ram? i just tried to stick some extra 512 from my pc (ddr 3200 obviusly) and it didnt recognize it, i saw that the latency is different do you guys reckon its because of that? my pc ram is 2.5 and my mac ram is 3 cl

ok, update, i just installed pc ram for my g5. his is what you need to keep in mind:

CL2.5 doesnt make a difference even when mac ram comes with CL3

I tried TwinMos and didnt work kingston works like a charm.

PC3200 for the dual, pc2700 for the single processor.
