Aqua-Soft ForumsBasically, due to the holidays, I have about $270 to spend on a new processor, mobo, 512 of memory and maybe a case. What are your recommendations?

more money. With 270 youll bareley be able to get the cheapest stuff you can and still get everythign you need. I would go with AMD cause intels outa the question on that budget

for that cash i`d go with Asus A7N8X Deluxe or A7N8X-X, 512 DDR400 and an AthlonXp 2500+ w/ Barthon core 
might be a few bucks more that ur cash but i think u could (and should) squeze it
yup. don't get a cheap mobo. i learned the hard way, getting an ecs k7s5a pro, but now i have an abit nf7-s. you might look into that or the asus a7n8x, as the others have mentioned, but remember, the -x version doesn't support dual channel.
good ram from kingston, crucial, corsair, micron, etc.
2500+ barton seems like a good deal too.
as for the case, any nice aluminum case will do. my raidmax was pretty cheap, but still pretty good. you don't really need those fancy cases with lcd temp readouts, etc.
Well... you have to realize that I am upgrading from a 650 MHz PIIIe, 1GB PC133 SDRAM. I'll take what I can get.
i upgraded from a pentium 3 1ghz. i saved the hard drive (but still got another one), the 2 optical drives, and the floppy.
are you planning on keeping the old parts? you could always sell them. i sold off my old parts to finance, at least partially, the new computer.
I will probably get the case with my own cash, so forget about that factor.

well.. i am keeping pretty much everything (vid card, dvd drive, cd burner, 80GB and 40GB hard drives). The leftovers will probably go into my little brother's PC though. The RAM is gonna be useless with the new mobo anyway.

i completely recommend the Intel Canterwood board, it is worth it to spend all your money on it.
Save your money for something nicer. Dont waste it on cheap stuff. You get what you pay for, remember.
