Hey guys, I have finally gotten so annoyed with windows that I am moving to Linux, but here is my question:
I already bought Mandrake 8.2 a while ago and have noticed that the current version is 9. What are the differences between the two versions? Can you skin 8.2, and what are the better things about 9? Also, if I install 8.2, will I be able to download an update to 9 or will I have to download Mandrake 9 full version?
9.0 is technically better as the kernel is better and drivers are updated with betta Mandrake tools too. I find it to be the best so far. if you really wnated to.. install 8.2 download 9.0 and use the update option to update 8.2 .. but it would be pointless..you could just install 9.0 right away. And what do you mean by skin 8.2
Skinning like GUI ?... the GUI is the X server with KDE or gnome desktops so if you run kde.. you can skin it on any linux system....

Yes, you can download it. But I would recommend going for redhat, mandrake is awesome, and I didnt had any trouble with hardware, except for my non working windows modem. But i tried redhat, and i like it more, but my soundcard needed to be installed manually, but I like redhat a lot.

Im out of home since december 10, so I havent used it, but since I fixed my soundcard issue and redhat problem I like to use it. I printed the redhat manual, the basic one, I alreayd read almost all of it, Im gonna get the reference manual to learn more. My future project is to port icons to Linux, including mine, on a linux forums, they already liked the idea of porting mine, since they are big and can turn to be useful on linux.
When I return home, January 7/8 i have 13 days before entering school, so I have plenty of time to port icons and upload them.
When I finish, ill let you know.

porting icons to linux is really easy.. since linux uses PNG format for icons.. shouldnt be a problem
