[help] How To Use Invision Power Board

Hey,

Im finally going to begin work on my ipb forum called MNEforums. The only problem is, i got the file from ipb.com and i dont know how to do a single thing.

Can anybody help me with this? Where do i get started.

Not to sound like a jack ass. And i've never used IPB. But.. you may try a README file. *shrug*. Or their official forums. You'll probably get more help there.

honestly its not that hard, upload everything in the folder it came in and run the installer, poof, you have ipb boards working,

before i forget you need a have a mysql database already set up.

I've been using phpBB for ages and I've created 3 forums on it already so and I'm presuming u just have to do the same (upload the files and create an SQL DB). I hosted all of mine with Tripod cos they're the only free hosters I can find that support PHP and MySQL and they automatically create a CB for u. The only prob with Tripod is they paste ads everywhere! grrr :rant:

I've used IPB a fair amount... Yeah, you upload the contents to whatever dir on the server you like (Not sure if you've got a "proper" host or a free one at the moment), and then generally navigate to http://yoursite.com/forumsfolder/sm_install.php

Once you're there, it should tell you any problems witht he upload (You'll probably need to set a few CHMOD permissions whilst you're at it). From there it's just step by step...

Once you have the install done, log in to the admin CP and mess around. That tends to be the best way to figure out what everything does so far as i can see
