[release] Bonzai Over Falls

I took this photo this summer in Banff in the Canadian Rockies. The tree was hanging over bow falls and it looked like a bonzai to me. The wall paper has a bit of a japanese feel to it, I hope you like it.

Bonsai = Tree native to Japan.

Banzai = Japanese war cry.

Bonzai = American anal rape of the Japanese language.

P.S. Awesome wallpaper! :D

a bonsai is a tree that has been styled by somone in a traditional japanese manner. that tree is considered a bonsai because real bonsais are minatures of these trees.

um Seph I posted a simple tutorial on that on my old Wall.

Its very simple

Take an image you want. Set a 'stroke' Image> Layer style>stroke

Change the color to white. Set the width to as much as you want.

Then set a shadow. Image> Layer style> outer shadow.

Make the shadow dark grey and move it to the center of the image. (so that it doesn't show.

Then change the spread to a bit higher. This'll give it a mac shadowing effect.

Hope that helps for the future.

yeah, i know how to do that Amnesia, but i really like the texture of the photoframe in this piece as the ruggered edges if you look closely, thery are not a white box...

#84306

Yes, I know people kayak bow falls, I also know people die trying! Anyway, about the technique I used for creating the look. I'm not going to release a PSD because you wouldn't really learn anything about it, it's easier to explain.

Alright here we go.

1) The white border - very easy, you got your photo, not duplicate the background layer, so u have the image then underneath it, clear it so it's all white. You know have 2 layers - on top the photo, the background is just white. Now we just go to image->canvas size and add about 25 pixels all around, then we add like 30 to the height and make it relative to the top of the image so it adds the height to the bottom. Not hard.

2)Distressing the photo, this was done by simply adding a layer mask to the photo, then painting on the mask with a black rough brush thus 'erasing' around the edges, simple enough.

Also, I don't release raw versions of my photos, however if someone would like a particular scaled down resolution I can post that here, no problem - say something like 1024 pixels high?

that would be awesome if u had a 1600 ver man. Awesome work

Here's a close up of my bonsai tree in case you don't know what one is, this one is three years old.

Not "Daniel Son", Daniel-San. San is the suffix put on names in Japan to signify someone you know but are working with. Kind of a "friendly, but not friends" relationship.

There are also Sama, Kun and a few other suffixes they use.
