For me it only works with "XP" style start menu and not with "Classic Start Menu"!!!

It only works with the XP-style startmenu, 'cause I can't find a windowshandle for the classic menu. I will try for a workaround for the classic menu. If I find something or get it to work, I will post it here.
there is a little application if you want that when you execute it show yhe start menu (classic or XP styled, it work)
you've got some other stuff, it's a very good site, i'm using it with ObjectBar and it's very efficient
kerin - I've also been using those apps off my docks for a long time...they work great...people keep trying to re-invent the wheel sometimes.
i can understand why sometinmes the wheel need to be improved (with tires 
)
non just that with this app you can not choose WHERE the start menu appear, maybe it's a feature that would be great :woot: :woot: :woot:
isnt there a way to not have the start menu pop up first where the original start button is on the taskbar but pop up only near the icon we click on the dock ??

I agree, it would be a great docklet if it didn't have that "double-popup" feature
I am still searching for a way to do that. What I am currently doing is when the docklet is clicked, it waits for the StartMenu windowclass to be created and than reposition the window. This is done due to the fact that the classical startmenu is created on the fly. I have some inspiration, just wait

I managed to get rid of the "double-popup" effect for the XP style startmenu. Using a new technique, the classical startmenu won't respond to anything. Just need to try some more things. I WILL get this to work, I just will!

I'd say release it then...the vast majority of us probably use the XP style menu anyway...then when you have the problem with the classic style menu figured out, you can release again...my 2 cents.

You should know how many e-mails I have got about the classic style menu when that one wasn't working.

Features:
-> Simple docklet that, when clicked, show the startmenu over the docklet instead of the regular startmenu position.
-> No more "double popup".
Don't replace the original startmenu with this one, make a new folder in your Docklets folder and call it Startmenu2. Then unzip all files to that folder. The docklet is named "Startmenu2 Docklet".
WARNING: This doesn't work at all for the Classic style startmenu, so don't e-mail me about that please. I am still working on the classic style startmenu. Any updates on that will be posted here.

Thanks for releasing this Andreas...just tried it and here's what happens on my setup.
Added the docklet to OD, first time I click it the startmenu appears wherever the windows taskbar start button is...then for all further clicks on the dock icon the starmenu appears over the dock icon.
I then quit and restarted OD - same thing - first click on the dock icon the menu appeared over the taskbar start button, on all further clicks the start menu appears over the dock icon.
It's getting there...thanks for all the work on this...it'll be super once these little kinks get ironed out.
hallf: Noticed that too sometimes, will release a new version in some minutes, that hopefully get rid of that effect.

BTW, you should first restart your comp, because you cannot remove menuhook.func because of an error of me :nuts: . Sorry for that one, it's fixed in this release.
Andreas - the new version works like a charm! Thanks for the quick fix - the docklet rocks now (I don't use the classic menu )
Let me ask you something...the technique you used to do this docklet, could it be used to capture a left-click of the mouse anywhere on the windows desktop (that's not clicking on an application window - just an open area of the desktop) and bring up the start menu at the mouse position? Like most Unix/Linux desktops do...you don't have to click on the "start button" just click anywhere on the desktop to bring up the menu at the mouse pointer.
I've been looking for something like this for a long time...I used to have an app - I think it was called "startpop" (or something like that) that worked in Win95, 98, and 2000, but doesn't work properly in XP - in XP with startpop you can left-click anywhere on the desktop, but the start menu appears wherever the start button is (kind of what your docklet was doing initially) which isn't that useful.
There are a couple apps (I think Hoverdesk is one) that'll let you right-click the desktop to bring up a custom menu (instead of the display properties), but that's not what I'm after.
Maybe, what I'm asking is very difficult to do, but seeing as how your docklet can now make the start menu appear at various screen locations, I thought I'd run this by you for your thoughts.
