Would you look at some of the prices iconfactory is asking for a set of icons that only goes up to size 32x32. They GIVE AWAY much better icons all the time. Sure these are for professional use, but who--even on a windows machine--is going to pay that for 32x32 icons?
What they mean by "professional use" is that the price you pay grants you a license to use the purchased iconset as part of your application, website, advertising campaign, ect. These aren't meant to be used as system replacement icons.
I know what they mean by professional use. I'm not stupid. I was just pointing out that that is a lot of money for something with only a 32x32 resolution. Even in windows programs are using bigger graphics these days. At least 48x48.
No, default size for windows is 32x32, but some people like them bigger, as a lot of the memberes here like. But the default size, at least in xp, i dont know about longhorn, is 32x32 pixels
well I personally think (by looking at those icons) that you could get better sets by us aquafiers. lol
I mean, WE do it because we love it, they probably do it because they have to.

Besides, most of those icons go out for programs that will end up running in win2000 or NT4 and stuuff like that, beleiveme, they wont have icons bigger than 32 pix.

Ya. Who cares about the sizes.
Sure we're all skin people who want big pretty icons. But, seriously, how many programs can you name for windows that have bigger then 32x32? People in general don't even know what 32x32 means. Let alone want it bumpbed up to 128x128.
But ya, those are over priced ugly icons.
Well, it is their parogative what they sell something for, including the price that they want to sell it as. Also these are for profitable use. Most of the icons here (if there is a readme attached) states that these icons are meant for personal use and may not be used for profit. Heh, it's just capitalism that bites our asses.
Ya, they're for commericial software. But, seriously. If I'm a company, and I'm spending thousands of dollars on having this application developed, I'm not gonna go and buy some icons that just anyone can buy and use. I'm gonna spend a few extra bucks and have my own created.

there are probably a lot of small businesses that want something quick and dirty or don't have the funds to spare for icon design. for someone like that, those icons could be just fine.
