Here after a year of me selling my old iMac I bought an iBook g4 last week, and much to my surprise it was nice and fun the first day, then got boring, and more boring, so now the thing is going back... Reason... there is nothing to do on a mac. And I've asked everyone I damn know that got a mac what to download what are some good apps, they all say photoshop and thats about it lol.
Rant off. 
Apple has its way of getting into your wallet thats for sure.

In that way, you'll stay with your wanna-be mac pc, and i'll get a greater apple machine and finally throw my pc to hell (and take out the all in wonder card first).
That's why i'm not going to buy a mac as my next computer. It just don't offer the features i look in a computer. The biggest reason may be games, because i'm a hc gamer

Its a tool to allow you to use OpenSource/UNIX software on your mac.
There are about 2000 ported applications, for GIMP to nmap.
You could never get bored with that.
You could also learn more about UNIX, and really unleash the power of OSX.

its too much trouble to get something worth wild to run on a mac. Apple got a pretty good os, lots of eyecandy, no software. (rephrase that, no GOOD SOFTWARE)
another thing that pissed me off, there is no such thing as freeware on a mac lol. 15$ for drivers for my xbox controllers. lol now I dont mind paying for some stuff but for a driver?
Timan, my point was that the whole fink distribution is not just FREEWARE, but OPEN SOURCE.
Its free as in beer, along with freedomish.
Its really not that hard to setup, even Taha did it.
Just browse through the package list. There are so many different types of programs.
Want security software? NMAP, DSNIFF, SSL, SSH.
Want graphics? GIMP, ImageMagick
Want sound, XMMS, others
There's also games and utilites.
Literally, loads of software, all free.
You can even completley replace the GUI with (inferior) *nix GUIs.
Well talk about someone putting you off getting a mac... Fink and other X11 stuff is what pushing me towards it. Can put the money I'd use getting office/appleworks towards getting better hardware then running open source apps on it. I'm a bit more sceptical now. B*****d.

Yeah, there's a lot of great apps for XP-nis, and then there's a lot of crap that hoses your system, makes you curse etc. etc.
Dude, there's a lot of great things with a Mac you can't do with XP-nis, there's so much fun stuff underneath it all. I play with my friends iBook all night long at work then go home and do the stuff to my system.
This is some serious disturbing news, there's just so much great stuff you can do under the hood of OSX.

I stick with PCs because I get to customize my box from hardware to software. Ditching a PC for a Mac means having to give up a hell of a lot of knowledge gained over many years and learn how to do a lot of the same stuff over again.

I keep hearing about "unleashing the power of Unix" with OS X. I've been a Unix biggot since 1984 but I don't understand a statement like that. You make a very general statement about so much "fun stuff" underneath it all. What are all of these great things you can do behind the scenes with OS X. Give us some specifics. Broad generalizations are meaningless without something to back it up.

when you grow older, you'll have no time for such almost pointless hobbies, unless you're a rich kid like kimberl. Believe me, I was a sick gamer and a serious computers lover - now its surviving the real world, so i might as well get my mercedes rather than tweak up a honda civic upgrade it and pump it up.

Mac is the ultimate thing imo. Some people are satisfied with what they've been fed with for their entire lives, and some people prefer to CHOOSE well 
My point was that I don't have the time to learn how to use an entirely new computing system. I also live in the real world where most people don't have the MONEY to get a Mac. Building a PC is much cheaper. The Mac is different, not better or worse. Choosing a PC is not a bad choice, it's just a choice, because a computer is just a tool (or in some cases a toy). It runs applications, not your life.
I hate how people supe up crappy cars, because in the end, it's still a crappy car that now looks like a small child's sneaker.

thats what I was talking about, thats my whole point and i used that with the pc and the macs debate. Why have a mocked up pc to look and performe like a mac if you can get one.
A car is also a tool, its a tool to drive you anywhere YOU want. You can be a power user (power driver) and know how to drive tanks, mobile artillery guns, stick shift cars, but still, choosing a luxury car (an affordable one) to do what you need would be more prefered.
I'm not saying you're not aware of the real world, but from MY point of view, I need a powerfull computer with a perfect monitor to utilize my skills in order to create better visual arts. After YEARS of working with both powerfull PCs and hulkish 24" monitors and Macs with 23" cinematic screens, I'm so choosing the mac. It *may* be more expensive, depends on what monitor you buy for the pc, but the working environment, competability, performance, stability and simplicity of both hardware and software are forever unsurpassed.
There is no monitor that surpasses the cinematic monitors apple offer.
My job is depended on a computer, big time. Gladly, the better visual art/effects applications exists on the mac. Thats why I said that tweaking up my pc GUI wise and hardware wise wastes my time and dangerously distracts me from what I gotta focus on in life. If I got extra time (money) on my hands I wouldnt really worry about how to get rid of my time consuming PC.
Again, this may be individual, but I have a lot more reasons to permanently switch and not have my mac as a side kick. :banging:
Too lazy to open a new topic, anyway starting to use it more and more, pretty nice so far, but cant find where the resources are. Last time I used osx the icons were in HLToolbox they are gone now 
, also where is the aqua theme it self and do you still have to extract each image 1 by 1 by 1? :/
