Dual 1.25ghz G4 Or 1.6ghz G5?

I just dropped almost five grand on a new apple set today. I bought the 1.25 ghz G4 tower, but now im having second thoughts if i had made the right decision. Are the new G5's that much better?

You should be content with the Dual G4.

According the benchmarks ive seen, the 1.6Ghz G5 is much faster than the 1.25Dual G4.

Plus, once OSX becomes will 64bit, it will become even faster.

That, and the G5 will be supported/optimized longer.

So go for the G5.

The dual g4 will be a lot faster! OSX is made for dual cpu. But I would still go for the G5 only because it looks cooler and its a newer technology.

Not nessecarily, even though OSX is compliant for Dual Processors. Having a dual processor does not mean you get 1.25 + 1.25 = 2.5. It mainly means that it has two brains that can think for itself. Plus the archetecture for the G5 is far superior.

I think he's including the tower ~3G and cinema display ~2G. I hope.

Return everything and get the G5. its 64 chip puts it in the position of being capable of being faster then any G4. Plus i'd rather get a new model then a old one. And G5's look better then G4s. Damn, if i had enough money to decide whether to get a G4 or a G5 i wouldn't be stuck with a pc.

I guess, but why would you put down $1924 on a 1.25 ghz g4 tower and a 23" Cinema Display, when you can get a Dual 2ghz g5 and a 20" Cinema Display for the same price.:blink::blink: (too much money on some people's hands)

besides the tower, the rest of it i blew on an ipod and a 20" cinema display. its canadian dollars im talking about btw so its not as much money as youd think.

but yupp.... im thinking im going to change my order to a g5 now. thanks for the input folks!

Just remember if you want to use VirtualPC you will haev to wait until the next version comes out next year.

Here's a good link to a review of all the systems and comparisons with older G4s

If you go with a G5, I suggest getting one of the dual processor G5s. The single G5 1.6Ghz model is not worth the money and is not upgradeable to dual processors as it uses a different motherboard than the two other multiprocessor systems.

You should of got the G5.. >.:)

I have a dual and am very happy with it ---- I have played with all the new G5's and for everyday use it is compariable. You'll notice the difference when encoding or working with some of the more professianal apps....

The G4 dual is a great buy ..... later next year when the G5 v2 comes out and all the bugs/and performance upgrades are availiable for OSX. then maybe you should ebay your G4 and go G5

YAY first post!!
