After 19 years of using PCs and most of that time disliking macs, im switching.
To the iMac 1.25, 17 TFT with 1GB ram, anyone got one, what are like. Also getting VPC 6.1 and installing my own copy of XP pro, which of course will need aquafying. Some XP utils i still need.
So any opinions on the iMac 17+ pack?
And whats vpc like?
There are a lot of built in utilities that are built into OSX, it's just you have to search for them. Also, I heard that VPC as a little lacking in the preformance stage. Otherwords, it sucks. Keep your older computer and network it to work with your new Mac. THerefore you can keep your old software and have a new Mac to do your work on. 
The problem is my old pc is a 3000+ 1GB 200GB HD, ie am needing to sell to get mac, costs a fortune in the UK
I only need XP to run things like digiguide, DVDxCopy, and a some other misc software.
From what i read thay hopefully will be fine, though for gaming i have a Xbox, also doom3 is being released for the mac a few months after the pc version, seems from my research that games are being released more quickly now that apple i starting to use better gfx cards, planning on upgrading to g5 and Radeon 9800 Pro
for doom 3 release and theres always my xbox
i would so get the 17" iMac, but right now a laptop is better for me moving in and out of the dorm. anyway, the iMac is %#^&ing awesome, but use Win2K on VPC if you can (unless you have an XP only program or something), ive heard XP is horrible on VPC and 2K is more stable. its just my opinion, but i have no problem with 2K on VPC for me.
And whats vpc like?
easy. you start it up, click "new", set some options for you "virtual machine", and treat is just as a normal PC (ie, boot off a CD to install). the "virtual machine" is saved as a huge file (however large the used virtual hard drive is). also, the gig of ram will be nice with VPC, because you basically have to share your RAM with the virtual machine. also, if you did have a real PC lying around with XP Pro (or Win2K Server or Win2K3 Server), you could actually connect to it via Remote Desktop Connection

Try to avoy any pc file in your mac.
i thought the same about a week ago but, thera are tons of better mac appz out there.
You better try to get mac versions of your needed appz before getting a single windows file in your mac
Besides it´s tooooo slow even without themes and running classic theme and nothepad open.
Take my advice my friend my vpc lasted in my ibook about 6 hours... not worth.
