Hide The Recycle Bin Icon

Windows XP gives you the ability to have the My Computer, My Network Places, etc hidden on the desktop, but not the recycle bin.

If you have a recycle bin in the dock, like me, you probably don't want another one just chillin on the desktop.

you could always not show icons on the desktop, but that takes up lots of extra memory in XP. Instead, you can just hide the recycle bin the same way XP hides My Computer.

Download and run these registry files to hide/show the recycle bin on the windows XP desktop:

Hide: hide-bin.reg

Show: show-bin.reg

Enjoy!

Or you could use tweakui which lets you enable\disable it with a check box.

or u could go to start- run and type gpedit.msc and do it from there :D

If I am sharing a Windows XP Professional with someone who doesn't skin. Will it get rid of the Recycle Bin on their side as well as mine?

maybe this is another solution, it also lets you to hide ALL the icons on your desktop, right-click your desktop, and select arrange icons, then uncheck "show desktop icons" that way, "another wallpaper", will cover your current, that way, no icons will shown.

Hope it helps to others.
