Might Be Getting A Mac For Christmas :d

I've always wanted a mac, and I might finally be getting one (Y)

I have a couple of questions (Please excuse if they're obvious questions, I've only used a mac a few times at my friends house and loved it)

1. Is a 466MHz G4 powerful enough to run OSX ? (Preferably Panther)

2. How much ram do you recomend for running say Photoshop, Safari, and iTunes at the same time ? I can do it comformbly on 512 on my PC.

3. Is dual monitors easy to get working in OSX ? (I'm getting another 17" for christmas)

4. Can I use a 3rd party sound card, like an Audigy 2 ? (I need my 5.1 audio :P )

5. Is it possible to use a PC Geforce 3 Ti500 ? I've seen people talk about modifying the bios, but i want to make sure :)

6. Are there Bluetooth PCI cards that will work with the G4 ? I might want to get a Apple wireless kboard and mouse later.

7. Can I use my current IDE hardrive if I write over it with zeros ?

Thanks :D

I'm not a mac user atm, but will be getting my first one in a couple weeks, I'll try to answer your questions as best as I can

1. Yes, it should be able to run fine

2. At the minimum, 512mb

3. I'm not sure, I haven't yet played with a second monitor yet.

4. You can't use creative internal sound cards. They don't support macs ATM. Your better off getting an M-Audio revolution

5. I believe you can only use the original geforce 3, no ti's. You will have to flash the card's bios though.

6. Not sure, on that one, you could try a bigger mac forum, they might be able to help you better.

7. Yes, you can as long as you format it.

Thanks, looks I'm going to have to save up for a Radeon 9800 :P

I found a 512 stick of pc133 in my junk pile and the mac I'm hoping to get has 768mb of ram installed. 1.28gb of ram should be really nice :naughty:

Also, anyone who has the bluetooth wireless keyboard/mouse combo, how do you like it ? Whats the avg battery life on them also ?

Thanks :staffs here:

I use my ibook for working at home with a second monitor (dell D1025TM 17 in @ 1600x1200 - sony trinitron tube) and it works perfect.

I can use it spanned and mirrored.
