Near The Perfection

I have edited the new mageguru osx bar in order to get an almost perfect bar. I have changed the font size of the menu container to medium. I have changed the volume icon for a bitmap more accurate. I've replace the grey apple logo for the blue one. Also the finder font has been changed from Lucida sans Unicode to Lucida Grande and here is the result:

Mine looks more realistic imo, granted it's icemans bar with a font change and a few other mods by me, but it is still the best I have ever seen :)

it's even got flashing mouseover's now :D

I have both blue and graphite versions, but I wont release anything because it's icemans work mainly, but if he wants to get them off me and release them he can :)

(I know the font is a tad bit different, but we dont have a true to OS X version of Lucida Grande; most look crappy, and the font I use is pretty damn close)

Oh and I'm also working on a jag fur version here's a shot:

Thats really nice Chris. Nice work. I would venture to say that Iceman really wouldn't mind if you posted a link, as long as you made sure people know it was an edit of Iceman's original theme. Just put a text document in with the download stating that most of the work was done by Iceman. :D;) Iceman what do you think?

I would recommend using Lucida San Unicode 17 as it is the closest to the one used in the menus on OS X, not Lucida Grande. I would also make sure you have font anti-aliasing enabled (cleartype on XP) and turn off shadows for both the menu bar text and the menu text.

Click Here for an example of what I mean. I love the Reschanger program that comes with Iceman's theme and with the shadows disabled, the OSX theme for the volume changer proggy looks so authentic.

Hey Judge, that is cool. Not everyone likes it but having a menu (whether it be OS X style or not) at the top adds to the usability of the OS and fullfills Fitt's Law.

You know what? This may be heresy, but I really don't like the Mac menu bar. I just don't want one on my PC.

Having said that, these bars are all masterpieces of ObjectBar skinning.

Hi Judge,

I'm with you on the Mac menu issue.

I've spoken to some people who own both PC's and Mac's and they've expressed annoyance with the Mac menu as well.

From my own limited experiment with OS X and my vast experience with Win, I do find I prefer having the menu options on the program bar itself.

Peace,

Grusic

well every mac I have seen does have shadows under the app windows text. Maybe the video card included in the emac doesnt allow for this, just like video cards that dont support QE wont show shadows under the cursor.  *shrug* anyways it looks fine to me, so I'm not changing it, it's not hard to edit it yourself just change the "shadow effect" to 0 in the aquabar.obskin (with notepad).

Chris

Hmm. Maybe they got rid of those shadows in Jaguar. The eMac GeForce 2MX fully supports Quartx extreme and there are shadows everywhere else including the dock icon labels, the desktop icon labels and the cursor shadow.
