Ie Problem. Your Help Or Advices Are Appreciated

Dear everyone,

I would like to share several problems that i encountered after installing Iceman's tweaked system files for XP SP1. any thoughts, advices, suggestions and the like are greatly appreciated in advance.

1) My first problem is that Internet Explorer keep on asking me whether i would like to make IE the default browser. I only have one browser that is IE, i am not sure why it keeps on asking me that. it seems that windows "knows" smart enough that the original iexplore.exe has been replaced, even though the backup iexplore.exe found in the folder dllcache(C:\Windows\System32\Dllcache) and i386(C:\Windows\Servicepackfiles\i386) have been replaced with the tweaked iexplore.exe

2)it seems that any files with extensions .htm, .html lost their associations with IE. i am wondering whether this behaviour is normal. I have to manually configure the "tweaked" IE as the default program.

3)i ran windows update last night and found 2 new updates and updated my system accodrdingly. after completion, some of the icons on my "new" start menu revert back to the original windows version(favorites, control panel, help and support, search and run) . all the icons on my internet explorer also went south. i did the unthinkable, i began the long process of copying and pasting the tweaked system files again one by one hoping that the tweaked system files from iceman will replace some of the files that are updated by windows update. alas, now i cannot replace some of the DLL files, apparently they are being used even though i went into safe mode and killed the explorer.exe. the files that i cannot replace are: msgina.dll, mstask.dll, ntshrui.dll, rasdlg.dll, netshell.dll, setupapi.dll, shell32.dll, url.dll, uxtheme.dll

4)once again, any suggestions or helps are greatly appreciated.

sincerely,

Nozomi

although Im not expert Ill try to answer your ?'s.

* Dont run any windows updates or they will overwrite your hacked files.

* to replace the .dll's I hit cntrl/atl/delete then ended explorer.exe task from there i went to new task/browse/ copies my new hacked dll and went to service pack folder and renamed the existing dll and pasted the new one, do the same in system 32/dll cache/ and just the plain system32 folder. Dont just paste and overwrite, rename the existing ones first.

* about your IE i havent had that problem, when it asks if you want to set IE as your default would it work to click yes and check "dont ask me again"??
