How Can I Hook Em Through Xp?

well, i have all my computers in a LAN network, some in a workgroup too but i didn't bother to do that to all of them. Anyway, my question is when i press ctrl + alt + del i get a list of processes to kill. There are also a couple of tabs near process too though like: Applications, Performance, Networking, and Users. Although i turn off my comps i never turn off my network router. So like all the computers are connected to the network almost all the time. Unfortuanatly in the Users tab i never see any other computers except for mine, how come it doesn't list any other of the XP computers i have in my network. Do i need to hook the computers with some unknown software.

BTW: i am running XP on 3 of the comps, the 4th computer i don't care if it doesn't work in the User tab (its ME)

Ya, XP only polls the task manager information from itself. Not from every computer on the network. Thank GOD! I realize you have a small network, but think of a coporate network. At my work, we have about 3200 machines on the domain, and we can also see about 5 other domains, one of which is IUPUI which has about 30,000 machines at any given time.

I'm not 100% sure, but hyena may be able to show you their running processes. It can for sure start a process, edit their users, show who's logged in. That sort of thing. You can find it here

pstools is a command line based thing, but it can do some stuff you may find useful as well. Including starting and killing processes remotely. That's probably your better bet, because it's free.

well, i don't really want to see the others computer processes although that is helpful. In the taskmanager theres an option to send a message to another user. Thats sort of stupid though, 1st of all why would someone log on with 2 accounts at the same time on one computer? and how? and 2nd, even if you did do that why send a message to yourself? I want to send messages to other people on the network. I know that there are certain programs that do that make users able to chat to each other but i mean like the person on another computer just surfing on the internet or something and a message pops up from another user. I remember a program in like system32 folder in versions of windows below xp but xp doesn't have that prog. It came with systems in the WINDOWS folder somewhere. Is that prog still there in XP only hidden? I can send a pop up message to the xp computers from ME with that program but i can't reply back to the pop up nor can i send a new popup to any system from xp.

well if you have many people living in your house and all need to use the same computer.. multiple accounts are extreamly useful and can be logged ina t the same time using fast user switch (winbutton+L) which then youd see them in the users tab in taskmanager.. and you can leave that user a message i guess for the next time that person logs in.. its not really ment for 1 person using a computer.. you just have 1 account on that computer then

Make sure all of your computers belong to the same Workgroup so they can see each other. If your router assigns IP addresses (if it uses DHCP -- Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), make sure each computer's network info is set to "Automatic IP address" instead of specifying one.

The way you view other computers is with Windows Explorer. Go to My Network Places and the other computers should show up. Then you can browse their shared folders.

I tried over half a dozen LAN chat programs while looking for a simple one that stayed in the system tray, and the one I ended up using is called aniazPOPUP. Here's a link: aniazPOPUP Home. Very rarely it will say it couldn't create DNS info when you start it, so just exit and re-run it (that's about the only problem I've ever had with it). You can send messages to all users or just one user on the network, have it pop-up a reminder message for you at a certain time, and do a lot of other things that I have never needed. It's not the only LAN chat program out there, so if you don't like it you can search on Download.com and see just how many others there are.

Mad Mike, thanks for the link to the prog, it sounds like it has all the features i want, but does it work on xp? Winpopup which is the prog on systems below xp, now since the guy said he wanted to expand on that prog, does that mean his prog is only below xp systems as well? Or does it work on XP?

well, i just tried it out, and i don't know how but when i checked, all my computers were grouped together in a workgroup called workgroup. I love this prog, its cross system, and i love the features, i recommend it to everyone.

Glad you like it! It works on Windows 98/ME/2000/XP. The reason I didn't like WinPopUp was that it sat in the taskbar instead of the system tray.

Also, with aniazPOPUP you can right click in the system tray and choose Reachable Hosts, then double click a name to send a message. With WinPopUp I think you had to type the server name each time.
