Do ico's make the dock slower instead of png's?
possible reason : file size more than 2 times the size of pngs
Is this true?

I used to use just ICOs, noticed the dock was pretty unresponsive/lagging, read somewhere here that PNGs were the way to go, converted to PNG and redid the dock, and ZAP, the thing has been greased lightning ever since.

I try to use all PNGs as well, makes the dock faster and easier to preview the files when in thumbnail mode through Windows.
agree with ji eun, pngs sped my OD noticably (could be the placebo effect though
)
Yes i noticed that with icons.
It has the same effect in Yz dock.
however in mobydock there is no difference between icons and pngs. (Y)
Fellas.i have a HUGE question....i have a laptop............(vaio,windows Xp.....cpu 1.7 ghz...128 Ram...etc,etc.....) and the Damm Yz Dock and Object Dock.......are so slow.......is there a way to fix this???????and wen im playinga a video....is so smooth.....and i don't know why ?????????? :rant: God works in mysterious ways :smartass:
(sorry for not beeing very helpfull but always wanted to say that
)
Press CTRL-ALT-DLT and open up the task manager so that you can see which processes are eating up your CPU cycles and post back.
Not sure why, but if I were you, I'd run straight out and spend a little bit of money doubling or trippling your RAM, I'd max it out if it's a laptop.
Now that Ji Eun mentions it, Windows XP needs a minimum of 256 MB of RAM I think, 512 to run it nicely.
Re: albertwesquer
My laptop is a PIII 933MHZ with only 256MB RAM and some ATI video, the Object Dock runs smoothly almost all the time unless I'm doing many things at once... I know this doesn't help, but its probably due to whatever else you're running
Now all I have to do is convert all those ICOs to speed it up even more ![]()
With an Athlon XP 2400 and 512 MB of RAM, the only time my ObjectDock lags is when I have iTunes running with the visualization, but they did a pretty bad job of converting that over to Windows.

You've gotta add more RAM. As much as it can take.
/karp
More RAM is always good, I want to upgrade to 1 gig pretty soon.
