[offtopic] Win 95 Remains In Xp & Server 2003

I don't know under which circumstances, but sometimes the Help menu in explorer changes. Normally it says "Help & Support Center/re" or and "Is this copy of Windows legal?" (or something like that), but suddenly, when I least expect it, the menu options changes to "Is this copy of Windows legal?" and "About Windows 95".

I have seen this "Ghost menu from the ages when our dreamtime ancestors draw computers on cliffs" a couple of times since XP were released. But, just like its Roumanian cousin it only appear late at night when my eyes are all sore and tired.

Therefore, I have always believed that I have seen something that is not there. But now, a few hours after dusk, there is was in front of me. The huge sad ghost of an era laid to rest. The last reminder of the first Windows OS with a decent interface. And this time, it appeared on my Server 2003 machine.

And, this time, I grabbed the screen as fast as I could so I would be able to share the experience (soy loco) with you guys.

Feel the force!

Hope you find this as funny as I did.

The screenshot is in actually in Swedish, but I hope it doesn't matter, you can still read "Windows 95", and "Om" *of course* means "About".

I believe the ghost is located here: browselc.dll>Menu>263, option two. It says "About Windows 95". Could it be that Microsoft has not changed parts of this dll for a loooong time? Or do they keep it for nostalgic reasons?

Is this really true? Are you sure this isn't a glitch from ObjectBar/WindowBlinds/DesktopX?

#77324

Well, I'm pretty sure. Cuz I have not used ObjectBar for a very long time, and I do not use WindowBlinds or DesktopX.

And this little menu has appeared many times on my non-customized (english) XP too.

Maybe I should have disabled ObjectBar before taking the screenshot. Then you would see that there is no difference when the menu is where it should be at the top of the explorer window. It still says "About Windows 95".

it happens every time i use objectbar but on my mom's computer (with windows me) it happens every time you open the help menu with nothing selected. don't try it. i had other people try it and it might only work on an emachines etower 800.
