but seriously, i did consider every other mp3 player in the market... cheaper ones, bigger ones (HD), i even read every single thread in iPodlounge. I heard about the infamous battery, and all other iPod problems but i still ended up buying an ipod. having an ipod is just different from having anyother mp3 player. You have quite a handful of websites which concentrate solely on the ipod just as this forum concentrates on emulation. You just won't see an iRivera forum or Nomad community. Also the amazing amounts of cool (expensive) accessories for the ipod surpasses that of anyother mp3 player in the market.
yeah although it may be the most expensive, crappiest mp3 player, it's still the best selling mp3 player in the market and there is a reason for that.
I've been looking into getting a portable mp3 player for absolutely ages, and, for me, the iPod is the only choice. After countless hours of research over about 4 or 5 months, I'm still of the opinion that I was 1 week in - the iPod is the player for me.
Okay, so it may not have the best life, or the smallest size, or the lowest price but, as far as I'm concerned, the "trade-offs" (if you can really call them that) that the iPod makes are worth it for a quality device. I'm ordering mine within the next week or so, hopefully
I have an iPod, and I love it! Just one thing, make s(h)ure you don't drop it from about chest high onto your driveway. Not good at all.

Yes, I know, I know. I ran into a huge proble in the PHP coding. Something that takes a few lines of code in ASP turns out to be a huge amount in PHP. I made the mistake of underestimating the ease of PHP. I'm trying as hard as I can to get it up in a few day. Sorry about the inconvenience.
yea, i saw that article a few days ago and they have some valid points, but my battery has never run out on me and $300 for the 10GB model is not expensive in my mind for what you get (although they should include a dock for it too).
there wasnt one MP3 player that was recommended twice for alternatives (there were different iRiver models, but no similiar ones suggested twice), because they lack in some areas, too.
my opinion is that the iPod is the best for price, tech specs, and style (Y)
as much as i like the ipod, i have to agree with that article. most of
the other models have more functions than the ipod for a cheaper price.

I finally just got an iPod and I'm in love! I have to admit I wish it had some of the features of the iRiver, but the iPod is hands down (mine, at least) the coolest and most stylish mp3/mp4 player.

I agree with him, but I think you're misinterpreting the article. He's not saying that nobody should buy an iPod. He's simply saying that the iPod isn't the best choice for everyone (duh). If you meet his criteria, you're better off with something else. Personally, I'd add a couple, e.g. no Ogg Vorbis.

and as for HDD100... Well i`ve read and heard that it`s actually worst of the big 3 (iPod, Nomad Zen X and HDD100) I know that i`m beeing very subjective but there can`t be anything better than iPod (well for me) It`s so easy to set & use and so damn sexy it`s beyond words! I almost gave up on mine (i`ve been working 2yrs to buy it, i`m a student) but when i got it, MAN i was one happy camper. And the battery is not that bad! I charge mine once in like 2 days and i use it a lot (never measured the time but it works like a charm). So untill u hold an iPod in ur hand, never say never 
ipod ,schmoopod. it's just a digital player. can always be imitated and made better.
