[help]my Pc Slugs To Turn Off Or Restart!

hi there guys and gals!

Im having not so much a problem but a VERY annoying issue with my comp...

It takes aproximately 2 to 3 minutes (YES!!!!:rant:) to shutdown or restart...

Any leads on what could be causing this? it will stay on the logoff screen for all that time so it doesnt look like its struggling to shut any application...

My usual programs running are the following...

ObjectBar

One instance of YzDock

One instance of MobyDock

Zone Alarm

Trillian pro 2.0

NAV 2003

Yz SHadow

Yz Toolbar

My specs... (might have something to do...)

Athlon XP 2000+

1024mb of ram

40 gb HDD 5400rpm

160GB 7200rpm external Drive (yzdock and md are running off it)

Winxp Pro SP1

Well, I sort of have a solution for the slow shut down. If your running in NTFS, Pull the plug .

My comp is significantly slower than your (don't even tempt me) and I get the same time. Just be thankful that you can add a gaussian blur in Photoshop faster than I can.

Yes, i am running NTFS, but the External HDD is FAT (cant be converted to ntfs :wub: It!

anything in the event log? have you run bootvis before? turned off services? checked msconfig startup items? are you clearing the pagefile at shutdown?

Is it an external for a purpose? Then why is it always attached to your computer. I could probly help if you let it be unplugged until you need it. Or if you want it to be an internal open the caseing and plop it into the computer, it's a normal HD inside that baby that has a converter so you can hook it up to USB/2.0/FireWire

Hmmm...

@Wizard. Its external cause i move it back and forth from the office to my comp to store videos when video editing cause its fast... also cause i move a lot from country to country and most of the times i have to change the comp... so why not have all my data properly organized there?

@Dreamz. I am not clearign the page file at shuddown, i have disabled services (the nvida helper was one of the advisable things to do in the link provided above, the ipod helper and the messenger service, those pop ups can get to my nerves)

i have unchecked in msconfig some of the services i dont want... i tried booting up with only the necesary services (in msconfig) and i still get the lag...

@Ahsh##z. We should join forces it is really annoying... i have the same graphic card as you..(im asuming its the 128) but i had that problem b4 too witna gf2 mx 200 64mb

I had the 1394 Connection on my Audigy disabled in my Hardware manager and I disabled the Nvidia display driver service in my Services.msc and that helped a TON.
