Iex 0.3 ?

Hi guys, sorry I'm not very active at the moment but I didn't give up !

I have some projects for iEx !

here is what I plan to do for it:

- complete rewriting, to ensure lower cpu usage and best perfs

- hardware acceleration

- and thus, LOTS OF EYE CANDY EFFECTS ! like the black and white background in selective expose or mooving windows :) just like in OSX :)

but don't get too happy, anything of above has been coded yet. It's just a project. Remember I am still working for a company at the moment, so I don't have much free time :)

but I just wanted to tell you guys :)

have a nice day,

siwu

Thanks for an update. :) We hope everything goes well for you.

Good news Siwu!

Thanks for tell us about the project .... (Y)

Is there any chance that you can do ACTUAL resizing of the windows, like in OSX.

Right now its just snapshots of the windows, so its not realtime, and you can drag n' drop, etc.

That would be awesome if you could. (Y)

Well, "direct" resizing of windows in Windows (lol) isn't possible because Windows doesn't have an "upper layer" of display.

In OSX, you have the object layer, the windows layer, and the display layer, so if you resize the window in the window layer, it is "directly" resized.

What I mean by object layer is that in Windows, a window is just an addition of objects or graphics.

There is no "window layer" in Windows, so it can't be done. But believe me, with hardware acceleration, IT IS really really faster :)

I have made some test (actually take a screenshot, take a shot of the active window, and allow to move it with mouse) and it's fast.

Think about it, display buffers are now in the video memory, all blitting is done by the GPU and also, it's double buffered :)

But yes, you can't drag and drop files in expose mode, coz the "desktop" behind the windows is just a screenshot.

w00t cant wait. Iexpose is prolly the aqua app i use the most. I think you should quit that silly job thing that keeps you from apeasing me quicker :D

#74434

Hmm..thats the news that we have been waiting for so long siwu.

#74459

siwu. please do it !!!! do it !!!!

you are the man !!!! (Y)

hardware acceleration !!!!!!!!!!!!!

thats awesome !!!!!!!!

AMEN on the hardware accelleration. I look foward with anticipation to see what comes of this. thanks in advance for the hard work that will be put into this project.

I'm sure siwu would do that if you sign a contract with him & pay him more than what he's currently earning with his job. How does $500 a day sound to you? :D

For $500 a day I can also kiss you on demand :)

@contra:

No, in windows when you try to make a screenshot of a minimized window, you only get the titlebar, and even not visual styled (basic windows look). So I have to restore/re-minimize every time. I now it's slow, but that's why it can be disabled :)

Hey man, dont spend your free time in forum, go to work in Iex 0.3!!! GO GO GO!!! :staffs here:

#74676

i don't want to smarm, siwu. but when i read on apple.com that iTunes is the best windows app i noticed iEx is the best (most useful) (ported) app for windows.

i decided i try to make the windowsizer tool alone, can you remember? the KDE feature, alt+click to move and resize windows. iEx .3 and this tool would rock.

#74686

swu, do you have a target day to realease it ? .... man your apps really rocks !!! :goku's job:

hmmm wouldnt GPU acceleration be better? dunno, running itunes and then exposing the iwndows would make the thing start skipping as it uses CPU to play...

I might be wrong... :shy:

I find GPU acceleration to be smoother, always... specially cause i dont have the video card doing much usually... why not take advantage of the big ass processors theyre bundling wwith them?

Cheers

i must say this is even cooler than iTunes! can`t wait for iEx 0.3!

(Y) siwu, you`r the man :rule: ;)

That's what hardware acceleration is.

#75469

LOL, i thought it meant Core CPU processing... doesnt it? its not software...

#75473

I think you have created a wonderful app. and I look forward to future releases.

#75482

Well, for now I don't have any release date...

As you know, I am completly rewriting the code. To make a kick ass app :)

But for know I'm working for a french research institude (INRIA) so I don't have much time (really). But don't worry, I have coded some tests in order to see what GPU accel looks like, and I must admit, I will kick ass :)

I also planed to make a sort of "plugin" system in order for you to code some effects, what do you think ?

#75950

I think we all think "AWESOME!"

#75979

If the GPU is going to end up taking taking the workload then wont it be slower for those with older graphics cards than if it was just left to run from the CPU? Doesn't affect me but I'd like to know what the implications are.
