File Menu On The Taskbar

Hi

I found this site the other day http://www.jonmega.com/~iceman it has lots of files including system files that changes the whole Windows operating system GUI to Mac.

Now in the screenshots it shows the file menu at the top of the windows (File, Edit, View etc.) on the taskbar as it appears on Mac OS

Ive seen a few screenshots of this with a about screen showing windows OS

my question is how can I achieve this in windows?

I have replaced my system files with the ones supplied at the site and everything has worked as shown incluing rounding the exploer windows, system tray icons, control panel icons and even the shutdown screen.

But the file menu still remains where Microsoft intended, This is my last obstacle to obtain a Mac GUI on WInXP

Can anyone help me out? I'll be forever grateful :bow:

taskbar rightclick -> second last entry (something like "Lock taskbar") -> drag taskbar on top of screen -> lock taskbar again

just wondered about the strange answers of all others in here... sorry, I didn't read your post carefully enough, the others are right...

to get the file, menu, etc. onto the taskbar, you can try a replacement shell like litestep, or you can use an app like objectbar (www.stardock.com) or winmac.

The MacOS Taskbar Style that Iceman uses comes from ObjectBar (Stardock.com), plus one of the many MacOS / MacOSX skins available from WinCustomize.com.

Personally, I don't recommend using it... ObjectBar (As well as most Stardock's applications) is a ResourceHog and a RAMLeecher...

you do not have to go with other software if you just going for the look! Most if not all of my screenshots are msstyle. All you need to do is in my documents create the folders finder,file,edit and so on do not put anything in there! now right click taskbar and add toolbar to the taskbar then just place them When your done just lock up the taskbar.

InTrIgue...good idea...but pretty useless. I like to have things on the desktop that function.

I agree with Myuu_EXE on this one! We need a way of copying the windows menu bar to the task bar..or similar.

I find OB to be pretty crap on performance...and rather too complicated for it's own good. I think the only way at the moment to mimic the finder bar is to buy a Mac!!! AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

Anyway..that's my two p. on this one!

as you can see at the top of the screen the File Edit View etc. is missing from the window and is placed on the taskbar just like on the Mac OS

How can I do this under Win XP

I have ObjectDock running which displays the Mac Dock at the bottom of the screen

I cant just use Taskbar Toolbars linked to named folder as Most of the GUI is graphic but I still need access to the file menus so it needs to function as well as be graphical

I have installed all system files from the original site I said and everything else worked but this

Anyone help PLEASE?!?!?

oh and I cant buy a Mac ive just spent enough a a 3GHz PC running XP I prefer XP but Mac OS is just so pwetty

It can be done I have seen screenies of this with XP information shown

If I recall correctly, what you saw at Iceman's Site is a DesktopX 2.0 Theme, another StarDock application. You can find the DesktopX Theme file also at his website.

But again, if ObjectBar has a crappy performance only modding the Taskbar, imagine what DesktopX (A full shell skinning app) can do to your system... of course, if you have a 3Ghz x86 Processor and 1GB of RAM, you shouldn't even notice that the program is running.

That prog has a fee dosnt it

oh well i guess it worth Windows Aqua (Y)

I was wondering if that prog could do it as it seems to have a large amount of control over the windows gui giving the obvious rise in the use of system resources

and your right P4 3.0Ghz w/ 1.5Gb Ram and 256mb graphics objectdock runs like a dream i never notice it running and its always crystal smooth.

Im been thinking tho it cant be hard, all it would need is some sort of toolbar like the google or ebay toolbar then seperate the file bar like the rest (buttons and address) and link it to the taskbar as a toolbar then mod explorer to remove the file bar from all other windows and a simple case of linking them together.

SHould be realitivly simple but I dont have the know-how that so many on this board have and with little time I dont think ill be creating this.

Anyone looking for a project?

Ok before I go ahead and get DesktopX I wanna see this in action.

Ive got the trial version can someone tell me how to achieve the file menu onto the taskbar, or what theme/skin to use

or at least how I can go about modding my current XP theme to simply change this one thing

why'd you get desktop x? Its slow and doesn't really look like aqua, the only thing that desktopx can do is hide explorer and the dock, and it doesn't do the dock very well. Anyway you've got 2 legal dock progs to choose from anyway, i recommend the 3rd illegal one if you can get your hands on it.

Anyway get rid of desktopx, its objectbar that you want, and with the objectbar trial version you can't use any good skins. That is one of the trial limitations. So there is no point in download the trial version, unless you are getting the full version of objectbar.

OK thanks but as Ive already said performance is nothing to me I have a P4 3GHz and 1.5Gb of ram so I dont notice any speed difference.

So if I get objectbar what do I do to move the file menu to the taskbar

I dont care if It looks like aqua all I want it to do is this one thing

Can someone assure me that this works before I get it?

Hey scott, glad you got it worked out.

I'd just thought i'd say WB and OB do not hog as much resources as the windows theme service...

However if you do use WB remember to disable the windows theming services from admin tools otherwise you would be running two theming services at the same time which is one of the main reasons that people accuse WB for being a resource hog.

Desktop X however is a friggin resource hog. Never got it to work without crapping out my pc.

Anyways if you don't get it WB and OB working the way you want just try it again a few weeks later. When i first got object desktop, i hated it.. now i just love 'em. Though I still hate the fact that you'll have to pay for it. But they are amazing software which i would recommend if you have 50bucks to spare.

Im working on a Panther & Jaguar theme for it, its coming along nicley with some nice features like the fact that when you press finder it dosnt act as a mac would it gives you a drop down menu of all running programs to make task switching easy without the taskbar

I just need to get hold of iceman so I can ask for permission to use his brushed texture for the bar, and I also need a decent Aqua Apple Icon for the left all my efforts dont come out well (it need to be a .ico file tho)

Hey anarchi, congratulations on discovering object bar, it's a beutiful thing Any way, before you go nuts trying to make themes, check out wincustomize.com

the've got some pretty good mac os object bar themes (with great bitmaps and apple icons and stuff) then you can modify the theme menu's and short cuts to your personal needs.

Hey thanks I found it before tho

There are some good themes on but My brushed one goes nicely with my theme

I also found a one which replicates Microsofts new Windows Media Centre a blue background with big buttons to control your computer simply the perfect lazy mans PC (Y)
