Msn Messenger 6.1 Compaitibility?

Hi, i just installed the latest version of moby dock. and i have MSN messenger 6.1 but when i tried to add "MSN-item", mobydock simply crashes.... is this a bug or issit my notebook issue? i am running litestep at the same time. please help. thank you!

and one other thing, what is the difference between setting the image for the 'program-name' and 'class-name' in the item properties and what is the use of 'folder-path'? sorry.. i m a new user to moby-dock.. but i really lurve the features on them... just so excited about trying all of them!

well first off mobydock's msn item only works with windows xp. that's because it only works with windows messenger, not msn. i feel your pain. i want it to be for msn too... also the class name is a name of a window (though i don't know much more about it, sorry) but if you set an image for the class name and there is a program with the same class it will have the same image even if it is from a different program. if you set one for the program it will be the same throughout the program. if you set one for both the clas name overrides the program name and you can have a 'default icon' for some windows of a program and an icon only for certain windows.

so that means that even tho i am using Win XP, and MSN6.1, it wouldn't work as it is only configured to work with Windows Messenger 4.7? Hmm... just wanna make sure that's the right info i am getting here. ;)

hi,

Mobydock works with MSN 6.1 ! it is just a requirement to have Microsoft Messenger 4.7 to be installed (not running).

Ah i see.. i just uninstalled Windows messenger 4.7.... :( anyway, i hope that the next version of moby dock does not requires that....

Kerin.. hmm, i m not sure what is the cause of the that problem, maybe moby has an answer to that? :canadian:

it would be cool :) a permanent MSN item in my dock would be nice cause it mean that i don't need the system tray anymore... for the moment i'm using a system tray server with object bar (take a lot of memory)

hm,

it should really work with 4.7 installed. try to uninstall and reinstall it. you can download the newest version from MS Home (at the very bottom of the page).

after install look at the taskmanager for 'msmsgs.exe' (should be installed in ..\program files\messenger) ! afterwards start mobydock and try to add the msn-item !

if this works, you can install/use MSN Messenger 6.1 with Mobydock too (it shouls connect to the default messenger) !!

Hope this helps (report back),

Moby

oh ok... so we have to run both windows and MSN messenger to make the item run isn't it???

i've tried with windows messenger installed but not running... the problem is that it take memory... more and more memory, and i only have 256 with graphic shared 64mb... sh###...

i'll continue with object bar to have my system tray and moby for the launch bar :)

thank you moby :)

the reason being for uninstalling windows messenger is becoz i didn't see a need to have 2 messenger programs running in the background, therefore i uninstalled win messenger... didn't wanna hog up the memory usage. :) same reason as kerin..

hmmm you don' t need to have msn4.7 running..you just kill the process after you sign in.

#74477

but wouldn't that be troublesome? to kill the process every time?

not for me because i have broadband , so i only sign in just like, 1 time per day or less. And i have to say, yeah, i prefer do not do this, but this is the only msn docklet that we have.

Thanks moby
