Alrite, I'm getting pissed by people saying they can't find what they need using search when I can do a search myself and end up with 10 results.
So here's the first of many N00bies guides on 'How-to'...
Today's topic is on using something called 'Search'
Step 1: You see the pretty bar at the top? Click the button called Search.
Step 2: You will be brought to a Search page. You can type whatever you are looking for in the 'Search By Keywords' box.
Step 3: IMPORTANT
Just typing what you need and hitting Enter is not enough. Don't be surprised if you get 0 results. Two other important boxes are 'Search Where' and 'Search Posts From'.
Make sure that you select 'All Forums' in 'Search Where' and for 'Search Posts From..' please select 'Any Date' so that you get the maximum results possible. Just to be safe also hit the 'Older' radio button.
These are the basic steps to performing an effective search.
YOU MUST DO THIS BEFORE CREATING A NEW TOPIC ASKING FOR SOMETHING.
Now a lil word regarding the other options.
If you need to find a certain post by a particular user you can type that user's name or a part of his name in the "Filter by Member Name' box. If you are confident of the user's nickname you can check 'Match Exact Name' to reduce that chances of getting redundant results.
It's also possible to sort the search results by a particular category. Choose one in the 'Sort Results by' box.
If you remember the title of a particular forum post you're looking for you can select 'Search titles only' in the 'Search Where' options box. Otherwise leave it at the default 'Search entire post'.
Lastly, you can filter the way the search result is displayed by using the 'Result Type' options box and display the results as either posts or topics.
Yes let the flaming begin for me looking down on n00bs.
