Help Spanning My Monitor

I got an AGP 16mb card, and no its not Radeon unfortunatly..

(meaning I dont get quartz and not even the ability to span the monitor).

So you ask yourself, how come with 16mb you can do that. You gotta have at least 32mb - but then I read about this hack for allowing 16s to span the monitors and by that receive the external's monitor's rez.

BUT, my rage pro 128 yet AGAIN isnt on the list of the listed effective cards.

Like the minimum requirements for the quartz extreme, fast user switching, and the spanning hack feature is that you gotta have an AGP slot with at least 16mb graphics card. However, it never lists the ati rage pro series among these (prolly too old).

Is there anyone who can pull me away from this misery and tell me there is SOME sord of a benefit with that card and there is a hack that allows spanning and all that?

THANK YOU :banging:

This page has an app and tutorial for how to do it via open firmware on iBook, iMac and eMac. It also tells you how to enable quartz on lower-end video cards. But I think it says somewhere that if you have a rage card you can kill t totally by applying these hacks.

HTH.

LOL.. your post screams 'Taha! Are you there?!' :lol:

You *might* want to try the following, since its just a temporary change in firmaware to support spanning. If anything goes wrong, just reboot while pressing opt+cmd+p+r (zap the PRAM). However, don't blame me if your mac blows up or something. :rolleyes:

1. " /" select-dev{return}

2. 00000000 " graphic-options" get-my-property 2drop !{return}

3. mac-boot{return}

{return means you have to press enter}.

And do be careful of the spaces between words.

Why not just use Virtual Desktops?

Because 'virtual' is not as good as the real thing. ^_^

iMac

These machines can use the patch:

17" TFT 800 Mhz Superdrive GeForce4MX 32 MB July 02 - February 03

17" TFT 1 Ghz Superdrive GeForce4MX 64 MB February 03 - September 03

17" TFT 1.25 Ghz Superdrive GeForce FX 5200 Ultra 64 MB September 03 - now

15" TFT 1 Ghz Combo GeForce4MX 32 MB September 03 - now

These machines can NOT use the patch:

All 15" TFT iMac configurations (except maybe the 1 Ghz model)

All CRT iMac configurations

:cry:

- also this got my attention as well -

eMac

These machines can use the patch:

17" CRT 800 Mhz CD Radeon 7500 32 MB May 03 - now

17" CRT 1 Ghz Combo Radeon 7500 32 MB May 03 - now

17" CRT 1 Ghz Superdrive Radeon 7500 32 MB May 03 - now

These machines can NOT use the patch:

17" CRT 700 Mhz CD GeForce2MX 32 MB April 02 - May 03

17" CRT 700 Mhz CDRW GeForce2MX 32 MB April 02 - May 03

17" CRT 700 Mhz Combo GeForce2MX 32 MB April 02 - May 03

17" CRT 800 Mhz Combo GeForce2MX 32 MB April 02 - May 03

17" CRT 800 Mhz Superdrive GeForce2MX 32 MB April 02 - May 03

notice that GeForce2MX (32mb) is listed among the machines that cannot get patched. I thought it was cause the patch is exclusively for the Radeon series.

Weird.
