Apple Only Giving Security Updates To Panther
well, since Panther has a new java implementation (takes up about 50-60% of Panther installation), it seems that wasn't offered for Jaguar.
And when you read the description for the security update, you'll it is made very specifically made for java in panther.
actually i heard about this also... from what i read, there might be some lawsuits against apple because they're basically forcing a user to spend whatever the cost is for panther ($125?) to have the security they should be getting with the previous versions. how can they expect a user to upgrade every year and spend a c note just to get the security updates (that's saying they don't need or want the new features apple packs together with the security updates). at least windows has the balls to say we f-d up, here's the patch to fix it FOR FREE!! just my 2 cents.
Actually, turns out Apple did this somewhat on other versions.
For example, there were 2 or 3 MAJOR ssh vulnerabilites a while ago,and Apple only released patches for 10.2, not 10.1.
Its illegal over here for a company to not give a years warranty for their product... that should really extend to software (i don't know if it does) and as such should mean they legally have to give out patches (or otherwise give away panther for free) should jaguar need fixing.

thats pathetic. Everone makes fun of m$'s security flaws, but at least they update old copys of windows.
linux companies manage to provide support for years after they release the os, and in general their products are free!
apple just took a huge leap downwards in my estimation.

Does any one know how much the update are. Goku said that Java is 50-60%. So it's less then that. How much is the disk full? I don't have a Mac, but I would like to know how much (in MB) the sevurity patches are.
not only is apple not going to release security opdates for
older os's, they also said that they were going to release a new
os every year.(as stated by the article)
how 'bout them apple$?

some are a few 100K, some are a few MB.
