I think it's a realy easy program, as long as you don't have to use so much ActionScript.., I'm more i to graphicform, design...

For intros (sequential playback, no interactive and complicating stuff) you only have to understand Flash basics: layers, frames, symbols (graphics, buttons and movie clips) and tweening (am I forgetting something?). Oh, and Flash is perfect for drawing your own graphics.
I'll vote for the program's internal help before anything else, and Flashkit once you stumble into any problems or need tutorials and ideas for more advanced stuff.

Humble request:
Please don't make your whole website out of flash. Some of us have slow connections, and linux (Macromedia loves to use old versions of GCC), and Flash is scary.
And if you make essential parts of your website out of flash, like buttons (im looking at you KOL), PLEASE make a non flash version (in fact, completly stripped down), so that dialup users can be ok.
Flash is not a replacement for HTML. <_<
Flash was meant to be friendly for slow connections.
Vectors load much faster than any lossy Jpeg and Flash animations are nothing in size compared to videos. It's streaming so you don't have to download everything before it starts playing. You can easily embed fonts and create a site that looks consistent in every desktop.
But you have a reason for your worries: Flash developers think that they can embed an MGM production in a website (5MB at least) and also don't want to interrupt playback (so they force you to see a "Loading" 99% of the time).
Flash is goooood. Belieeeeve in Flaaaash!

How hard is it to make a mostly-text website? Not that hard. Just offer the choice, it'd save on your bandwidth too, because I dont want to see all that junk most of the time.
btw contra, it doesn't save much bandwith, my entire site (w/o pictures but with vectors) is only 8 kb, in just text format, it would be about 7 kb. I feel your pain though, I'm currently working on my HTML version :6

I hate flash, unless there's a very good reason for using it... The only flash site I like is HomeStarRunner, and that's not because of it's use of design, it's 'cos it's funny as hell...

Not all sites can be translated to plain text, just because they are not meant to.
My site (oxygen-inc.com/kenx), for example, sells icons. I can't avoid showing them in the page. Kol's site is about how great graphic designer he is. It is supposed to have graphics, and also display them as good as he can, having us low-bandwidth users in mind, too.
Eye4u.com was one of the first Flash sites I've met, and one of the most efficient in bandwidth usage vs. rich, full-screen visual content.

I like flash as long as it fits the site. Graphics designers have a good taste for that. There was one flash site that was a designer's experiment but also had physics and other things that it ran on it. It was very nice, however I cannot remember the URL. I don't like when site force music or sounds, even MIDI's, oh God kill the MIDI's! There are certain tools that flash can help, mainly interactive stuff. Just my opinion. And those flash intros. Come on, do we really need intros anymore?
yeah.. as mentioned above, kirupa (or was it karup's) and flashkt are great resources.
Flashplanet is pretty good too.
If you're just talking a little intro thing. A nice program I used to use is FireStarter by Coffeecup software. It's shareware, but it does simple animation. Words flying across the screen, bouncing up and down. That sort of thing. Mostly text based, but you can include images. You can't do your own stuff with it or write your own code. But if you're just looking for a nice template of basic animation's, it'll do the trick.
Another simple program to use is Anim-FX , i never really used it, but you got me looking through my start menu to see what all old stuff I have left over. Like i said, they're both pretty point-n-click'ish. Type in your text, pick what you want it to do. That sort of thing, but if you've never done any flash, you'll still be proud of yourself when you're done.
I just remembered a program that I started to use just before I went my unFlashy ways. Swish
It's shareware, but it is a really nice program to do intermediate animations in flash. It's not a tutorial, it's a program that does flash. I haven't used it in a while, but back in the day it was a nice piece of software.
