Theres no need for add-ons
If the wallpaper is a .gif explorer will loop the .gif on the desktop
Any way to get this to work on a PC with Multiple monitors I downloaded the above File but it won't work on more than one monitor
same thing can be done (but it looks like crap) on XP via active desktop. This options was in Win for ages but it was never usable :6

No offense but IMHO animated wallpapers are a big waste of CPU cycles. And don't forget ram.
Agreed. How many people actually watch their desktop anyways. I just hope everyone attempting all this 3d stuff on their desktop has plenty of ventilation for their computer.
i had the matrix .gif wallpaper for about 10 minutes before it drove me nuts - it's a cool idea, but just not too practical IMHO

Its completly hardware accelerated.
Running FLUX in linux on a 2Ghz P4, I use about 5% CPU.
Id give up 5% CPU for a beautiful background.
i've seen some beautiful flash stuff on a couple of design sites that is beautiful, unobtrusive, and tastefully animated. Just clean vector art stuff, mostly asian influence, that is animated in
a relaxing way.. i'd love to get some of the stuff as an animated desktop. (just throwing in my vote). Don't want flash on my desktop though.
just got to get around to doing flash-gif some time.

This whole "animated desktop" thing isnt happening in Windows, its just not built into the OS, so anything else is a hack.
Please see my NUMEROUS other posts on the subject for the full explanation of why it wont happen.
I even got GBGB to admit he was wrong. 
Probably for the best anyway, there's only so much you can put on the desktop before you crowd it.

I have to disagree here.
U can use an application called swf desktop that allows u to create active desktops that can be updated on the fly from any remote location as long as the person that has it on there desktop is connected to the net.
U can also use it to create anymiated wallpapers that u can totaly interact with.
Until now wallpaper has been nothing more than static backdrop for the computer desktop. It might contain a picture of a celebrity, movie poster, or beautiful vista but it lacked the ability to do anything but look good. Now with SWF Desktop you can develop wallpaper that looks good AND delivers dynamic content, animation, interactivity and more.

There is a big difference between flash and true 3D.
The only way I thought that would be the closest would have to, sorrowly, turn on active desktop (well, it's been vast improved since 9x/Me days) and to have the web-page as the background. Then in the web-page, have javascript that slowly changes to the next image. The only problem is that in the javascript, it flickers when it shows the new image at 100% opacity.

I use iSlide myself and it works flawlessly. Well, almost flawlessly - ObjectBar doesnt play friendly with it sometimes. And it takes up next to no CPU cycles too. Its basically a flash animation that goes thru all the pics in a directory and slowly fades in/out
