Internet Explorer...

i dunno if this topic is appropriate in this section but damn i have been having this IE 6.0 problem for a few mths now. been using netscape since then but i wld love to switch back to IE....

everytime i clicked a download link(usually a file link.. .avi, wba, .exe, mp3 etc) when i use IE>.. the thing jammed like an old woman and everything starts to hang..

i tried everything from installing the service pack and sh##z but its still the same...

i tried to revert back to 5.5 but i cldnt... theres always an error...

the most obvious jammed up period is when i want to download a skin from wincustomize....

it will be such a disaster...

anyone encounter the same problem as mine?

nope, never had that problem before, especially not after i switched to firebird, but ie still works flawlessly for me.

did it just start up out of nowhere? did you make any changes to your system that may have caused this problem?

#68243

The problem is that instead of downloading the file, IE is trying to open it, whcih probably causes this. For the life of me I cant remember where the fix for this, but as a start, try going into tools, internet options, advanced, and tick restore defaults, and see if this helps

just to get some more complete info, what's the operating system you're on?

if you're on xp, try checking this registry key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile

there will be a value called EditFlags. mine is set to 38 07 00 00.

from things i've been reading, this seems to affect the checkbox "always ask before opening..." since mine is working right, see if yours is different than that.

(i would suggest making a restore point before changing anything just in case this isn't it)

:(

aww man..

i tried resetting the IE options to default but its still the same...

man...

i think the main problem abt it is that it will take a long time before the

download dialog appears...

and because of that, it will eventually freeze all the applications..

anyone can help?? it wld be nice...

wld love to have a usable IE...

missed it a lot!

Holy Cow!!!

i was about to give up on repairing my IE when i tot of an idea...

log into the microsoft website and read on ways to repair IE (i have no idea why i didnt think of that)

followed some instruction and it works like a charm!!

not only that..... my hard disk size problem was solved...

and it came up from 3.0GB free space to abt 8.0 GB free space rite now!

i knew somethign was wrong when i tried uninstalling some stuff back then but my hard disk free space doesnt seem to budge...

to add to all that.. i cld now access to my USER ACCOUNT control panel...

im not sure what happened to my IE back then but i suspect a virus had done harm to it back then...

man im so happy!!! :D

but i still got to resolve my broadband speed problem.....

i dunno why but it keeps getting slower and slower..

watever it is!! im so glad!!!

#69195

glad you got the problem fixed! :D

#69197

just out of curiosity, can you tell me what it was that you did from ms' website? just in case it ever comes up for me or anyone else. (or at least a link to the solution on their site would help...)

thanks!
